NHL: Flames KO Stars in Game 7 OT

Johnny Gaudreau scored 15:09 into overtime to lift the Flames past the Stars 3-2 in Game 7 on Sunday night in Calgary, Alberta, giving the team just their second playoff series win in the last 17 years.

Gaudreau got a rebound and put a sharpangled shot over Jake Oettinger, who made 64 saves for Dallas — a franchise record for the most stops in a Game 7.

The Flames will face the Oilers in the Western Conference’s semifinal in the first postseason Battle of Alberta since 1991. The series opens Wednesday in Calgary.

Tyler Toffoli and Matthew Tkachuk scored their first goals of the series for the Flames. Jacob Markstrom stopped 26 shots and had an assist in the win.

MLB: Reds throw no-no but lose

Reds pitchers Hunter Greene and Art Warren combined to hold the Pirates hitless Sunday, but it won’t count as an official nohitter in the books because the Pirates only batted in eight innings and won 1-0.

The prized prospect Greene (1-6) walked five and struck out nine in 7 ¹/3 innings, and the only run scored on a fielder’s choice in the eighth after he was out of the game. He threw 118 pitches.

It marks just the sixth time since 1901 that a team lost despite allowing no hits. It last happened in 2008, when Jered Weaver and Jose Arredondo combined for eight no-hit innings in a road loss to the Dodgers. — Ryan Dunleavy

In St. Louis, Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina set a major league record for wins by a starting battery as the Cardinals routed San Francisco, 15-6, in a game that ended with veteran slugger Albert Pujols on the mound.

In Los Angeles, Gavin Lux atoned for an early fielding mistake with a walk-off, two-run double in the ninth inning, and the Dodgers avoided a four-game series sweep with a 5-4 win over the Phillies.

In St. Petersburg, Fla., Matt Chapman’s throwing error allowed Tampa Bay to break a scoreless tie in the sixth inning, and the Rays went on to beat the Blue Jays 3-0.

In Arlington, Texas, Adolis García and Kole Calhoun each hit two home runs, Martin Perez pitched six strong innings and the Rangers beat the Red Sox 7-1.

WNBA: Ogunbowale sinks Liberty

Arike Ogunbowale scored 18 of her 21 points in the second half and the Dallas Wings beat the Liberty 81-71 at Barclays Center. The Libs (1-3) got within five in the fourth quarter but could get no closer thanks to Ogunbowale and Isabelle Harrison, who finished with 18 points.

Sabrina Ionescu had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Liberty.

ETC.: Lee wins at Upper Montclair

Minjee Lee made her only three birdies on the back nine of the Cognizant Founders Cup and held off Lexi Thompson by two shots to win her seventh career title and first since taking her first major at last year’s Evian Championship.

Lee took the lead for good with a twoputt birdie on the par-5 14th hole at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, N.J.

In McKinney, Texas, K.H. Lee’s 240yard shot on the par-5 12th hole stopped less than 5 feet from the pin, and the eagle put him in front for good on the way to a 9-under 63 and a one-shot victory over Jordan Spieth at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

In Kansas City, Kan., Kurt Busch pinched his way past Kyle Larson for the lead with eight laps to go, then drove away from the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion to win the AdventHealth 400. Larson finished second while Kyle Busch was third.
