NHL: Avalanche take Game 1in OT

Josh Manson scored 8:02 into overtime, Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves in his return to the net from an eye injury, and the Avalanche overcame a sluggish start to beat the Blues 3-2 in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series.

Manson sent a shot from near the blue line through a sea of players that went in just over the shoulder of Jordan Binnington, who made 51 saves for the Blues.

In Sunrise, Fla., Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, Andrei Vasilevski­y remained red-hot with 34 saves and the Lightning topped the Panthers 4-1 in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series. WNBA: Sun crush Libs at home

DeWanna Bonner made her season debut for Connecticu­t and scored 12 of her 16 points in the decisive first half and the Sun beat the Liberty 92-65 at Barclays Center.

In Cleveland, Mike Moustakas drew the third straight walk in the 10th inning to force in a run, and the Reds hung on for a 5-4 win over the Guardians.

Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi was placed on the 15-day injured list with a lower left leg injury after collapsing Monday while covering first base.

NFL: Watson, NFL talks begin

Before he traveled to the Bahamas to work out with new teammates, Browns quarterbac­k Deshaun Watson met with NFL investigat­ors to discuss his legal matters with lead investigat­or Lisa Friel, ESPN reported. Friel conducts investigat­ions for the NFL on matters related to the personal conduct policy and, when violations are found, helps mete out punishment.
