HOOPS: Lynx hold off Liberty

Aerial Powers scored 12 of her 18 points on free throws and the Minnesota Lynx held off the Liberty 84-78 in Minneapoli­s. The Lynx outscored the visitors 27-13 at the foul line and picked up their first home win in their third try. Natasha Howard had 23 points to lead the Liberty (1-5) and Rebecca Allen added 21 points.

Giannis Antetokoun­mpo, fellow two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Devin Booker and Jayson Tatum were voted first-team All-NBA on Tuesday, the first time in 67 years all five players were age 27 or younger.

The Nets’ Kevin Durant made the second team along with the 76ers’ Joel Embiid, Ja Morant, winner of the Most Improved Player award, Stephen Curry and DeMar DeRozan. The third team was Karl-Anthony Towns, LeBron James — who earned his 18th All-NBA selection — Chris Paul, Trae Young and Pascal Siakam.

Oilers defeat Flames

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his second goal of the game with 3:27 left in regulation, and the Oilers beat the Flames 5-3 in Edmonton to take a 3-1 lead in the secondroun­d Western Conference playoff series. Evander Kane scored his NHL-leading 11th and 12th goals of the postseason, and Zach Hyman added a goal for Edmonton.

NHL: MLB: Red Sox pound White Sox

Trevor Story and Christian Vazquez each hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs as the Red Sox set season highs in runs and hits in a 16-3 win over the White Sox in Chicago. The Red Sox extended their winning streak to six games.

In Atlanta, William Contreras singled home Ronald Acuña Jr. in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Braves a 6-5 victory over the Phillies.

In Anaheim, Calif., Noah Syndergaar­d allowed one run over eight innings of four-hit ball in his longest outing since returning from elbow surgery, and Jared Walsh homered in the Angels’ 5-3 win over the Rangers.

FRENCH OPEN: Favorites win

No. 8 seed Casper Reed defeated local favorite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-7 (8), 7-6 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (0) in the second round of the French Open in Court Philippe Chatrier. It was the final match of the 37-year-old Tsonga’s career that featured a spot at No. 5 in the rankings and helped France win its first Davis Cup title in 16 years.

It all offered the most compelling moments of Day 3, which included first-round victories in the men’s bracket for U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev, 2021 French Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas and, No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev.

Women who advanced to the second round included 2017 champion Jelena Ostapenko, 2018 champion Simona Halep, No. 7 seed Aryna Sabalenka ,No.9 Danielle Collins, No. 11 Jessica Pegula and No. 22 Madison Keys.

NFL: Rooney Rule expanded

The NFL has expanded the Rooney Rule again, this time to include quarterbac­ks coaches in a further effort to diversify the coaching ranks. The change was announced Tuesday at the owners meeting in Atlanta by Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer.
