SOCCER: Red Bulls win at home

Lewis Morgan scored in the second minute and the Red Bulls went on to a 2-0 win over Toronto FC in Harrison, N.J.

Luquinhas scored the other goal in the 56th minute for the Red Bulls (7-4-5), lifting a ball over retreating Toronto goalkeeper Quentin Westberg who had just made a one-handed save near the top of the box.

MLB: Cubs defeat Braves again

Willson Contreras had three hits and stole a base in his first game against younger brother William Contreras, helping the Cubs beat the Braves 6-3 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Cubs had snapped the Braves’ 14-game winning streak on Friday.

In Baltimore, Harold Ramirez hit a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning, and the Rays snapped its four-game losing streak with a 7-6 win over the Orioles.

In Los Angeles, Freddie Freeman had three hits and Trea Turner as the Dodgers defeated the Guardians 7-1.

In Washington, pinch-hitter Rhys Hoskins singled home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning and the Phillies beat the Nationals 2-1 for their 15th win in 17 games.

USFL: Generals finish strong

NHL: Hip surgery for Backstrom

Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom underwent invasive surgery on his left hip, a move that could sideline him long term but is designed to give him a chance to continue playing hockey. The Capitals said Backstrom had hip-resurfacin­g surgery Friday at the ANCA Clinic in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium.

GOLF: Korda leads at Meijer Classic

Defending champion Nelly Korda made a 22-foot eagle putt on the par-5 18th for a 6-under 66 and the third-round lead in the LPGA Meijer Classic held in Belmont, Mich.

ETC.: Beterbiev KO’s Smith Jr.

Artur Beterbiev earned a secondroun­d TKO over Long Island native Joe Smith Jr. to win the WBO light-heavyweigh­t title at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. Smith Jr. was knocked down three times in the second round by Beterbiev, who added the WBO title along with the WBC and IBF titles.

Josh Emmett defeated Calvin Kattar by split decision in their featherwei­ght bout at UFC Fight Night in Austin, Texas. Emmett took two cards 48-47 and Kattar took the other 48-47 in the main event. It was Emmett’s fifth win in a row.

Dylan DeLucia allowed one run and struck out 10 in 7 2/3 innings and Ole Miss continued its postseason roll with a 5-1 victory over Auburn in its College World Series opener in Omaha, Neb.

Chris Lanzilli hit a tiebreakin­g threerun homer and Arkansas beat No. 2 national seed Stanford 17-2, in the most-lopsided College World Series game in 34 years.

Lennie Rosenbluth, who led North Carolina to its first men’s basketball national title in 1957 with a victory over Wilt Chamberlai­n and Kansas in the championsh­ip game, died Saturday. The Bronx native was 89.
