REPORT CARD

OFFENSE

It was not always pretty, but the Jets ended up with 322 total yards, an average of 5.8 per play. They rushed for 135 yards and had five rushing touchdowns, just the third time in franchise history they’ve hit that mark. RB Breece Hall (18 rushes, 97 yards, 1 TD, 2 catches, 100 yards) was the star of the game, showing his big-play ability. QB Zach Wilson (14 of 21, 210 yards, 1 rushing TD, 99.3 rating) did not do anything flashy, but he also did not turn the ball over. The offensive line opened up some big holes in the running game.

DEFENSE

CB Sauce Gardner knocked Dolphins QB Teddy Bridgewater out of the game on a blitz on the first play. The hit resulted in a safety, and Gardner added an interception later. The Jets had two takeaways and took advantage of Dolphins third-string QB Skylar Thompson (19-of-33, 166 yards, 1 INT, 58.4 rating). The Jets had 16 quarterback hits and two sacks. Carl Lawson had a strip sack that Quinnen Williams recovered. The Dolphins did not have a play longer than 30 yards, and WR Tyreek Hill (7 catches, 47 yards) was quiet for most of the

B day. RB Raheem Mostert (18 rushes, 113 yards, 1 TD) gave the Jets fits.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Punter Braden Mann set the Jets up early with two punts that landed inside the 10-yard line. That allowed the Jets to pick up the safety on Sauce Gardner’s blitz on Miami’s first series. KR Braxton Berrios had a 42-yard return, and kicker Greg Zuerlein made a 34-yard field goal for a good all-around special teams day.

COACHING

There was plenty of good in this one from the coaches but also some head-scratchers. Give Jeff Ulbrich credit for the cornerback blitz on the first defensive play of the game. The defense still had issues against the run. On offense, the Jets hit some big plays and got the running game going late but were unable to take advantage of the Dolphins being without their top two cornerbacks. The fourthand-1 pass in the third quarter was puzzling.
