3 victims had bright futures
The three Michigan State University students killed in the campus mass shooting Monday night were identified Tuesday, with two from the same town.
Junior Alexandria “Alex” Verner (upper right), of Clawson, Mich., was described by her hometown school district as “a tremendous student, athlete, [and] leader” who “exemplified kindness.”
“If you knew [Alex], you loved her and we will forever remember the lasting impact she has had on all of us,” the statement said of Verner, who was studying integrated biology and anthropology.
Sophomore Brian Fraser (middle), 20, who in 2021 graduated Michigan’s Grosse Pointe South HS, was confirmed as a victim by MSU’s Department of Police and Public Safety.
Fraser’s LinkedIn page indicated he was studying business and had previously worked as the head lifeguard at a Detroitarea country club.
The third victim was identified by Detroit’s WXYZ-TV as Arielle Diamond Anderson (lower), 19, who graduated Grosse Pointe North HS.
Anderson’s death was confirmed shortly after her aunt, Chandra Davis, who won season two of the VH1 reality show “Flavor of Love” under the name Deelishis, begged on social media for updates on her niece’s condition.
“My beautiful niece @ariellediamond_ is a student at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY. She was in her classroom in the same building as the active shooter and we have not heard from her,” Davis, 45, wrote in the post.
Anderson’s family told WXYZ that their relative loved children and hoped to become a pediatrician.
Five other victims remained hospitalized in critical condition after the shooting, which authorities said was carried out by Anthony Dwayne McRae, 43. McRae, who does not appear to have any link or affiliation with the school, fatally shot himself late Monday as police closed in. His motive for the massacre remains unknown.
