NCAA: Tennessee beats No. 1 ’Bama

Zakai Zeigler and Santiago Vescovi each scored 15 points and No. 10 Tennessee took down newly minted No. 1 Alabama 68-59 on Wednesday night in Knoxville, Tenn. Playing its first game as the topranked team since the 2002-03 season, the Crimson Tide led just once in the early going and committed 19 turnovers.

In The Bronx, Darius Quisenberr­y had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead Fordham (21-5, 9-4 Atlantic 10) to a 78-63 victory over St. Bonaventur­e. The Rams won for the eighth time in nine games.

In Evanston, Ill., Boo Buie scored 21 points and hit a game-winning jumper with 2.7 seconds left in regulation to power Northweste­rn to a 64-62 victory over No. 14 Indiana. Northweste­rn earned a second straight win over ranked teams after defeating then-No. 1 Purdue on Sunday.

In Louisville, Ky., Armaan Franklin and Kihei Clark each scored 14 points as No. 7 Virginia held off Louisville, 61-58.

In Milwaukee, Olivier-Maxence Prosper tipped in a putback with 1.6 seconds left and No. 11 Marquette edged No. 16 Xavier 69-68 to remain atop the Big East.

In Ames, Iowa, Aljaz Kunc had career highs of 22 points and five 3-pointers and No. 19 Iowa State beat No. 22 TCU 70-59.

In Storrs, Conn., Caroline Ducharme hit the game-winning free throws with just under 5 seconds left, and the No. 6 Connecticu­t women rallied to beat Creighton, 62-60.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza has moved to dismiss a felony domestic violence case against former Texas men’s basketball coach Chris Beard ,in part because of the alleged victim’s wishes not to prosecute.
