Lemon still has juice at CNN

-

EMBATTLED CNN anchor Don Lemon has “zero defenders” left at the network, sources tell The Post’s Sara Nathan — even as it was revealed late Monday that he will finally return to work Wednesday.

Lemon — who has co-hosted “CNN This Morning” since its debut in November — is embroiled in a sexism scandal since he said on-air last Thursday that GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley, 51, “isn’t in her prime.”

Co-host Poppy Harlow walked off set, and Lemon has apologized. He sat out Friday’s show and yesterday’s.

On Monday night, CNN Chairman and Chief Executive Chris Licht informed staff in a memo that Lemon will be returning to the show on Wednesday, and that the anchor will “participate in formal training,” after he’s back, The Wall Street Journal reported.

By press time last night, CNN staffers were still waiting for the anchor schedule to be released to find out who was hosting Tuesday, Page Six is told.

“The outrage, internally, has not died down,” said one well-placed industry insider. “People are upset. [Lemon] gave the worst apology ever and instead of going to the Hamptons to sit it out quietly, he went to Miami, stayed at a chichi hotel and got his photo taken.”

“People are getting up at 3 a.m. to do their jobs on this show,” they continued, “so he was really poking the bear” by indulging in the nightlife.

According to CNN spokesperson Matt Dornic, Lemon was originally scheduled to be back in the anchor chair Monday, but opted to take off the Presidents Day holiday.

It was also revealed yesterday Rep. George Santos canceled a planned sit-down with Lemon and that Piers Morgan scooped the interview [see Page 11]. Morgan told Page Six: “I’m delighted that Congressman Santos recognized I’m the news anchor still in his prime enough to warrant the big exclusive.”
