SPORTS SHORTS NHL: Devils lose in shootout

Shea Theodore scored the winner in the fourth round of the shootout and the Golden Knights defeated the Devils 4-3 on Friday night in Las Vegas. Jonathan Marchessau­lt had two goals and an assist for the Golden Knights.

Dawson Mercer tied the franchise record with a goal in his eighth straight game and Jesper Bratt and Miles Wood also scored for the Devils, who had a three-game win streak snapped. Akira Schmid finished with 25 saves.

The Wild made the most notable moves on the final day of the trade deadline by acquiring Anaheim defenseman John Klingberg for defenseman Andrej Sustr, the rights to forward Nikita Nesterenko and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft. Anaheim also retained half of Klingberg’s salary.

Nick and Brett Ritchie changed teams in what is believed to be the first NHL trade involving two brothers. The Flames traded Nick Ritchie and defenseman Troy Stretcher to Arizona for Brett Ritchie and defenseman Connor Mackey.

NBA: Kings beat Clippers

Domantas Sabonis finished with 23 points and made two free throws with seven seconds left to cap a near-triple double in the Kings’ 128-127 victory over the Clippers in Sacramento.

In Denver, Nikola Jokic had 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists for his 25th triple-double of the season to lead the Nuggets past the Grizzlies 113-97.

In San Francisco, Klay Thompson scored 27 points to help the Warriors defeat the Pelicans 5-0 and wrap up a 5-0 homestand.

In Chicago, Devin Booker scored 35 points and matched his career high with six 3s and Kevin Durant added 20 points in his second game with the Suns in a 125104 victory over the Bulls.

In Atlanta, Dejounte Murray scored a career-high 41 points to give new coach Quin Snyder his first win with the Hawks, 129-111 over the slumping Trail Blazers, who were led by Damian Lillard’s 33 points.

MLB: 7 Cubs pitchers no-hit Padres

Cubs starter Justin Steele and six relievers combined on baseball’s first spring training no-hitter since 2017, blanking the Padres 4-0 in Peoria, Ariz. The Cubs said they believed it was the first spring training no-hitter in their history.
