Hofstra bounced from CAA semis

Hofstra squandered a double-digit, first-half lead as UNC Wilmington bounced the top seed from the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Associatio­n Tournament, 79-73 in overtime Monday night in Washington.

The Pride (24-9), whose 12-game winning streak came to an end, were led in scoring by Aaron Estrada, who finished with 25 points and six assists. Hofstra also got 19 points, eight rebounds and two steals from Jaquan Carlos. In addition, Tyler Thomas had 14 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Trazarien White had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Seahawks (24-9). Maleeck Harden-Hayes and Donovan Newby each added 17 points.

Southern final Furman 88, Chattanoog­a 79

In Asheville, N.C., Jalen Slawson scored 20 points and Furman beat Chattanoog­a to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1980.

The NCAA field contained 48 teams the last time the top-seeded Paladins (27-7) made the Big Dance. Furman coach Bob Richey had the Paladins on their way last season as the No. 2 seed until David JeanBaptis­te buried a 35-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to rally top-seeded Chattanoog­a (18-17) to a 64-63 victory.

Sun Belt final Louisiana 71, S. Alabama 66

In Pensacola, Fla., a career-high 23 points from Themus Fulks helped propel Louisiana-Lafayette to an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in nine years.

Jordan Brown contribute­d 13 points and 16 rebounds for the second-seeded Ragin’ Cajuns (26-7), who won for the sixth time in seven games.

South Alabama (19-16), which had ousted top seed Southern Miss on Saturday, was denied its first trip to the Big Dance since 2008.
