JOHN CHESTER KENNY
Mr. John Chester Kenny passed away April 4, 2022, at home in Manhattan, New York City. Memorial services/funeral mass will be held at 10 am Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St Francis De Sales 135 E. 96th Street
Mr. Kenny was born September 21, 1941, in New York, NY to John Chester and Katherine Boyle Kenny. He attended St Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Johns was a lifelong New Yorker. He lived his near entire life in the family apartment on E 96th street apart from a United States Army Commitment (Fort Dix, New Jersey 1964-1966) with a bachelor’s degree from Franklin College, Franklin, Indiana. Mr. Kenny worked for many years as a talent acquisition specialist in the field of Engineering. He was a long time member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
John had a life-long love of New York City. He was a great walker and without great exaggeration must have traversed all the streets in Manhattan. John also loved foreign travel and was often the first to visit an unusual foreign location without great fanfare. He loved the local eating and drinking establishments of the Upper East Side, usually venturing out alone and striking up an interesting conversation. His quiet demeanor, knowledge, and gentle nature engaged many for a night of interesting conversation.
John shared the same apartment for his entire life with his sister Eileen Cecile Kenny. They were great companions providing emotional and spiritual support over the years. They shared a mutual love of the New York Yankees.
John loved his sisters as he was the youngest of six and the only male. John enjoyed his numerous nieces and nephews always remembering their birthdays.
Mr. Kenny possessed a quiet and strong faith and was a lifelong member of
St Francis De Sales.
Known to his family as Johnny, he will always be remembered for humility, faith, intellect, and reserve.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; Patricia
“Patsy” McLarney, Katherine “Kitty” Marquis, and Josephine “Josie” Manna.
He is survived by two sisters, Eileen Kenny of New York, NY and Dorothy “Baby” Antolotti of Waterbury, NY.
