MLB: Ohtani does it all in Angels’ win
Shohei Ohtani starred on Tuesday night going 3-for-3 with two home runs and allowed just one run while striking out 10 batters in six innings to lead the Angels to a 4-2 win over the White Sox in Anaheim.
In Toronto, Thairo Estrada had a two-run double and scored a run, Alex Wood and three relievers combined on an eight-hitter and the Giants beat the Blue Jays 3-0 on for their 13th win in 15 games. The Giants are 10-0 on the road in June.
Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah allowed 11 runs in 2 2/₃ innings in a rookie-level Florida Complex League game Tuesday, his first since being demoted earlier this month. An AL All-Star and Cy Young finalist last season, Manoah went 1-7 with a 6.36 ERA in 13 starts before being sent down June 6.
In Atlanta, Ronald Acuña Jr. hit two of Atlanta’s five homers — all in the first two innings — and the power-hitting Braves beat the Twins 6-2. The Braves have won four straight and 12 of 13.
In Baltimore, Andrew Abbott allowed a run in six innings, and Matt McLain and TJ Friedl both homered to lift the Reds to a 3-1 victory over the Orioles.
In Denver, Clayton Kershaw carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and allowed just one hit in 79 pitches, J.D. Martinez homered twice to reach 300 for his career, and the Dodgers beat the Rockies 5-0.
In Phoenix, Corbin Carroll and Christian Walker hit back-to-back homers in a five-run first, Evan Longoria also homered against his former team and the Diamondbacks beat the Rays 8-4.
In Boston, the Marlins matched their season high with 19 hits and Sandy Alcantara pitched seven innings of onerun ball on the way to a 10-1 win over the Red Sox. Jazz Chisholm had three RBIs in his return after missing 38 games with a right turf toe injury.
Guardians manager Terry Francona remained hospitalized overnight for observation after feeling ill before Tuesday night’s Cleveland 2-1 win over the Royals. The 64-year-old Francona was taken to The University of Kansas Health Systems to be evaluated “out of an abundance of caution”.
