NCAA: Taylor leads Minny to win

Freshman Darius Taylor returned from a leg injury to rush for a career-high 208 yards, and Minnesota beat Bowling Green 30-24 in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit. Minnesota (6-7), which was selected for the bowl because it had the best Academic Progress Rate among five-win teams, won its seventh consecutiv­e bowl game overall and fifth in a row under coach P.J. Fleck.

In Phoenix, Jason Bean threw for 449 yards and all six of his touchdown passes to two receivers, and penalty-plagued Kansas outlasted UNLV 49-36 in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. The Jayhawks, ranked 14th nationally for fewest penalties with 55 during the regular season, were flagged 18 times for 210 yards, including four personal fouls.

In Dallas, Linebacker Brian Holloway returned two intercepti­ons for touchdowns, Jahmyl Jeter ran for three scores, and Texas State beat Rice 45-21 in the First Responder Bowl, the Bobcats’ first bowl appearance as an FBS program.

Jackson Arnold —a five-star true freshman — will start for No. 12 Oklahoma in its Alamo Bowl matchup with No. 14 Arizona on Thursday after Dillon Gabriel, the first-team AP All-Big 12 quarterbac­k, transferre­d from Oklahoma to Oregon.

NFL: Lawrence progressin­g

Jaguars quarterbac­k Trevor Lawrence has a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, but coach Doug Pederson says he could practice later this week.

Pederson says Lawrence “is progressin­g” and “he’s a little bit sore.”

A series of tests revealed that Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson tore both the ACL and MCL ligaments in his right knee during the team’s 30-24 loss Sunday to the Lions, coach Kevin O’Connell said.

The Texans claimed safety Kareem Jackson off waivers, one day after he was released by the Broncos.

NBA: Haliburton hits go-ahead 3

Tyrese Haliburton had 33 points and 10 assists and hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with a minute left to lead the Pacers to a 123-117 win over the Rockets in Houston. Indiana snapped a three-game losing streak, winning on the road for the first time since Dec. 7.

In New Orleans, Ja Morant scored 31 points and the Grizzlies defeated the Pelicans 116-115 in overtime to improve to 4-0 since Morant made his season debut a week earlier.

In Chicago, Andre Drummond had season highs of 24 points and 25 rebounds in his first start of the season, DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points and the Bulls cooled off Atlanta’s Trae Young somewhat in beating the Hawks 118-113. Young finished with 21 points and 13 assists after tying Oscar Robertson’s record of seven straight games with at least 30 points and 10 assists.
