Mets eye bolstering rotation

THE METS are continuing to try to upgrade their rotation, and they’ve increased those efforts since Kodai Senga went out. He’ll miss at least the first month.

The bigger question is whether they will seriously consider Jordan Montgomery. But for now, they seek depth.

They tried for Julio Teheran — who went to the Orioles, who were showing early interest and offering a rare $100K signing bonus for a minors deal.

Ex-Met Noah Syndergaard is still out there, but no indication the Mets are considering. He’s been offered NRI’s (non-roster invitee), but for now he’s throwing in Dallas and hoping for an MLB deal . ...

The Giants’ offer to J.D. Martinez that he didn’t take was for about $15M, and as was noted here, he prefers to go elsewhere.

That’s a fine offer, and it was nothing against the Giants. The issue was thought to be about their ballpark, which is beautiful but very tough on righty hitters who go to right-center field . ...

There’s a perception out there Blake Snell and Montgomery wouldn’t be ready Opening Day unless they signed very soon. But remember Kyle Lohse signed a free-agent contract March 25 and was available for the first rotation (Game 4). Both players are training, Snell in California and Montgomery in Miami . ...

The outfield market remains crazy. Good outfielders Adam Duvall, Eddie Rosario, Tommy Pham, Michael A. Taylor and others remain available.

Revenues are up, but the $2.1 billion outlay for free agents (about half of that by the Dodgers) is short of expectations. Complained one agent: “You’re either a superstar player or you don’t get paid.”
