Bezos betrothed’s best foot forward
Lauren Sánchez, the fiancée of megabillionaire Jeff Bezos, appeared to take a dig at city restaurateur Keith McNally after the Brit lashed out at her online and dubbed her “absolutely revolting.”
Sánchez, 54, reposted a pair of Instagram stories Tuesday evening that some speculated were aimed at the owner of Soho’s Balthazar and Minetta Tavern in Greenwich Village, although the posts did not mention the 72year-old by name. One post was a wall inscribed with the Abraham Hicks quote, “People will love you. People will hate you. And none of it will have anything to do with you.”
The other was a post from fashion designer Rachel Zoe that read, “Lead with kindness, root for other people, cheer for those you love. Just honestly wish everyone the best.”
The posts come after the cantankerous foodie on Instagram Monday took aim at the billionaire’s squeeze. “Does anybody else find Jeff Bezos’ New wife — Lauren Sanchez — ABSOLUTELY REVOLTING?” he wrote alongside a red carpet shot of Bezos and Sánchez.
“What an ugly and F***ing SMUG - LOOKING couple they make. Is this what having 1000 Billion dollars does to people?” Celebrities like model Chrissy Teigen and MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle slapped back in the comments section to defend Sánchez. “She’s actually incredibly dynamic, accomplished and kind,” Teigen wrote, “and everyone who knows her would say the same.” And Ruhle wrote, “I think she’s accomplished, kind, smart and loved. Social media is fun, but this is not. It is just mean for no reason. McNally’s apparently unprovoked attack came a day before The Daily Beast announced it would hire a “senior Lauren Sanchez correspondent” to cover all aspects of the “intelligent,” “gorgeous” and “funny” life of the former news anchor.
Favorable impression
Newly appointed Beast Chief Content Officer Joanna Coles made hiring the correspondent one of her first acts, appearing to have formed a favorable impression of the divorcee who is set to marry the world’s third richest man. Forbes reported this year Bezos had a net worth of $194 billion.
“I’ve never seen anybody land on the radar of Americans as fast and as brilliantly as Lauren Sanchez. I think everybody I know is completely fascinated by her,” Coles said Tuesday, her second day on the job.
Sánchez and Bezos went public with their relationship in 2019 after the Amazon and Blue Origin founder announced his divorce from MacKenzie Scott.
Scott reportedly parted ways with Bezos with a jaw-dropping $38.3 billion in Amazon stock. Their divorce settlement included a 4% stake — 19.7 million shares — in the online retail giant.
