NHL: Coyotes’ run in Arizona ends

The Coyotes closed out their 28-year Arizona tenure as winners, getting a goal and an assist from Dylan Guenther in a 5-2 victory over the Oilers on Wednesday night in Tempe, Ariz. The Coyotes buzzed early at Mullett Arena and closed strong in their final game before moving to Salt Lake City.

Sean Durzi capped it with a empty-net goal for the Coyotes.

In Dallas, the Stars earned the top seed in the Western Conference for the first time since 2016 after defeating the Blues 2-1 in a shootout.

In Tampa, Fla., Nikita Kucherov became the fifth player to have a 100-assist season as the Lightning beat the Maple Leafs 6-4.

The Wild signed goalie Marc-Andre Fleury to a one-year, $2.5 million contract extension.

MLB: Braves sweep Astros

Orlando Arcia’s RBI single in the 10th inning lifted the Braves to a 5-4 win over the Astros in Houston. It completes a three-game sweep of the struggling Astros and is Atlanta’s fourth straight victory.

In Baltimore, Cedric Mullins ended the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Twins 4-2.

In Milwaukee, Blake Perkins hit a single in the eighth inning to crack a scoreless game and lead the Brewers to a 1-0 win over the Padres.

In Boston, Tanner Houck pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for Boston’s first complete-game shutout at Fenway Park in nearly seven years, and the

Red Sox beat the Guardians 2-0.

In Phoenix, Cody Bellinger hit a goahead solo homer in the sixth inning and the Cubs beat the Diamondbac­ks 5-3.

In St. Petersburg, Fla., Anthony Rendon and Taylor Ward hit run-scoring singles off struggling closer Pete Fairbanks in the ninth inning and the Angels beat the Rays 5-4.

In Los Angeles, CJ Abrams homered in the first at-bat of the game and the Nationals beat the Dodgers 2-0 to take the series.

In Seattle, Bryce Miller and three relievers combined on a one-hitter, and the Mariners beat the Reds 5-1 to complete a three-game sweep.

NBA: Lillard makes progress

Damian Lillard returned to practice Wednesday for the Bucks as he battles through a sore left adductor that bothered him the final weekend of the regular season. Bucks coach Doc Rivers expressed optimism that Lillard would be able to practice more fully on Friday. The Bucks play Indiana on Sunday in Game 1 of their playoff series.

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said the team expects Kawhi Leonard, who hasn’t played since March 31 because of inflammati­on in his surgically repaired right knee, to be ready for their best-of-seven series against the Mavericks on Sunday.

NCAA: New transfer rule enacted

NCAA athletes will be immediatel­y eligible to play no matter how many times they transfer — as long as they meet academic requiremen­ts — after the associatio­n fast-tracked legislatio­n Wednesday to fall in line with a recent court order.
