Soaring Antisemitism
Antisemitism is exploding across the nation, a new Anti-Defamation League report confirms. The ADL found 8,873 reported incidents of assault, vandalism and harassment against Jews in 2023, a jump of 140% over 2022 (itself a record-breaking year) and “the highest level recorded since ADL started tracking this data in 1979.”
And that’s just what’s been tracked and recorded. Imagine how many hateful incidents go unreported.
More than half of these incidents (5,204) took place after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, when supposed “support for Palestine” quickly turned into ugly attacks on Jews.
Campuses across America were hotbeds of hate: Antisemitic activity at colleges and universities jumped 321% from 2022, fueled by leftist ideology that paints Jews as oppressive colonizers. Administrators at Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, MIT and elsewhere failed to protect Jewish students or rein in hateful anti-Israel protesters.
Synagogues were bombarded with bomb threats and buildings were vandalized with swastikas and other antisemitic symbols. Physical attacks on Jews jumped 45%. US leaders must get serious on combatting antisemitism. Some lawmakers have taken steps: Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed a bill defining antisemitism in state law, and other states have introduced similar measures.
But much more needs doing. Campuses must fire administrators who fail to crack down hard on bigots and to implement policies making it clear that abuse of Jews won’t be tolerated — and replace the board members who’ve picked those presidents and other lame leaders. The perversion of academia is the prime reason lefty antisemitism is festering across America; the mission to root it out of public life begins there.
