Pioneers coast past Morrisville

- By Kev Hunter

The Christopher Dock girls basketball team knew how to attack the Morrisville defense Wednesday night and the execution was just about perfect.

Nine different players scored points for the Pioneers in a dominant 60-19 victory that pushed their winning streak to six.

Dock was able to stretch out Morrisville’s matchup zone and create more space for driving and posting up, and the Pioneers defense did not let the visitors counter, or even keep the ball for very long.

“Morrisville has a ten- dency to hang with some of the better opponents in our league and I thought our team did a good job of dictating things defensively, as well as getting some good looks on the offensive side,” Dock coach Tim Ehst said. “What that usually means is fast break, and that’s pretty much how we got started.”

Sophomore Mattasyn Shisler was often the player capping off those breaks to the basket, scoring a game-high 14 points as the Pioneers improved to 8-4 (7-3 Bicentennial Athletic League Independence Division).

“Mattasyn has been key for us in being able to establish that part of our game, and she did once again tonight,” Ehst said.

And Shisler was only part of the problem for young Morrisville (2-7, 2-6 BAL Constitution), as Dock senior point guard Shea Neal directed a balanced attack.

“My favorite part is being able to run the offense, having those great opportunities and getting them in,” Neal said. “Seeing the plays be finished is the most exciting part.”

Just about everybody was finishing for the Pioneers, as Neal scored eight, including a pair of threes, and Kereece Seuren was dangerous underneath, also adding eight points. Jaclyn Teed came off the bench and started hitting turnaround jumpers, shooting 5-of-6 from the floor for 10 points.

“It was good to see the team relaxed and to see everybody ready to stroke it when they had the open shot,” Ehst said.

Speedy Delela Mena put in 11 points for Morrisville, but Dock simply continued to roll, even without key scorer Lanae Hunsberger, who is out two or three weeks with a concussion.

“We have one person who’s out hurt, but we’ve adjusted before and I think this is one of those times where we’re adjusting again,” Neal said. “All of the girls are doing a really good job with it.”
