- By Tim Hindin

Phil-Mont Christian took on Faith Christian in a Bicentennial League game Friday night. The game featured a second half treat for the many Falcons fans in attendance.

With the season coming down the backstretch and the winter season beginning to reach its coldest point, both teams were dealing with injury and illness. PhilMont won in this war of attrition 59-42.

“We were down a couple guys,” Faith Christian coach Dave Forker said.

“6HYHQWy-fiYH SHUFHQW RI [my playersz are sick,” PhilMont coach Glenn Dolton said.

Faith Christian enjoyed a seven-point lead entering halftime thanks to Seth Brunner buzzer beater at the end of the second quarter. However only three minutes, 10 seconds into the third quarter the Falcons turned WhHLU sHYHQ-SRLQW GHfiFLW LQWR a four-point lead.

Phil-Mont never looked back from there as it went on to win the third quarter 19-6 and the second half 36-12.

“Part of my game plan tonight was to try to win each quarter,” Dolton said. “I thought we did a pretty good job of that.”

The biggest difference maker in the second half was Phil-Mont applying a ferocious and tenacious full court press which made it GLIfiFulW IRU LLRQs WR PRYH the ball up court and get into sets.

“Phil-Mont came out the second half and they started full court pressuring us and started getting the tempo back their way,” Forker said.

The Falcons second half onslaught was led by two of their best players, guards Micah Baldez (12 points) and wach Dolton (game high 22 points). Both players not only scored, but also consistently made good passes and got their teammates involved.

“I thought both of them played within themselves,” Dolton said, “They showed a lot of control and discipline. That’s what I want to see out of them.”

With 25 seconds remaining in the game the Falcons’ Matt Steiger made a threeSRLQW fiHlG gRDl PDNLQg HYery Phil-Mont player who entered game have at least RQH fiHlG gRDl.

“I don’t [thinkz we’ve had that all season,” Dolton said. “That was a better team win then we’ve had all season.
