- By Tim Hindin

When glancing at the score of the match between Pennridge and Souderton, it looks like a rout with the Rams emerging victorious 45-18. However, the match had potential be closer if Souderton did not give up points off forfeits and a couple of close bouts swung its way.

“rltimately a couple of those tight matches [Pennridgez found a way to win,” Souderton coach Tristan Boyd said. The Indians were able to keep their bouts close, but WhH 5DPs FRQsLsWHQWly fiQished bouts the entire match. Pennridge set the tempo of the match with some key bouts early. Ben Ross (120) notched a 7-1 win scoring fiYH SRLQWs LQ WhH WhLUG SHriod. Dylan Gerhart won a close 3-2 bout with a deciding two-point reversal coming in the last 30 seconds of WhH fiQDl SHULRG.

“Ben Ross’ match was great,” Pennridge coach Dan Goetter said. “He’s worked unbelievably hard all season and he looked great tonight.”

Scott Parker and Tom Roeder each had convincing victories for Pennridge pinning their opponents in 52 seconds and 50 seconds, respectively. Their wins added to an overall complete team triumph for the Rams.

“[It was az good match, everybody wrestled tough. Everybody came out, wrestled for our last home match and wrestled hard,” Goetter said.

A close match that favored Souderton was the heavyZHLghW ERuW (285) RQ WhH final bout of the match. Ricky voung came up with a pin with 24 seconds remaining in the third period.

“voung is not just wrestling hard, but technically [soundz,” said Boyd.

With the win the Rams movde one match closer to securing a league title while the Indians used the match to gain valuable experience for a young team that features not a single senior. Both teams will store this one in their memories for the looming post-season.

“Tonight is a stepping stone, it’s a learning opportunity,” Boyd said.

“A lot of the guys saw opponents that they’re going to wrestle at sectionals and districts and we got a nice ZDUP-uS LQ sR RuU FRQfidence should be high for district duels tomorrow,” Goetter said.
