Library thrift shop adds hours

- By Bob Keeler

This week, the Friends of the Samuel Pierce Branch Library’s thrift shop will be open for the first time on a Saturday.

“Our clients asked us to see if we could do that,” Ginny Snyder, thrift shop coordinator, said. “We’re hoping it’s going to work out real nice.”

With the previous open hours on Wednesdays, many people were only able to get to the store at 819 Blooming Glen Road in Hilltown — across the street from the Blooming Glen post office — on vacation days or other times they weren’t working, and have asked for weekend hours to be added, Snyder said.

The shop will now be open to customers 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday, as it previously was, and is adding 9 a.m. to noon every Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the last Saturday of the month.

There is also a halfprice sale on the last Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday of the month.

“Saturday will always be a half-price sale,” Snyder said.

Donations were previously accepted at the shop during the Thursday hours, but now it will also be open for customers to browse and buy.

“It was a day that we took in donations and cleaned,” Snyder said. “Now we’re trying to give more hours for people to come in.”

Donations to the store will now be accepted during the hours it is open each day it is open.

“We get new stuff in every week,” Snyder said.

Items sold at the thrift shop include clothing for various ages.

“We have housewares, knickknacks, jewelry,” Snyder said.

The shop does not have large appliances or furniture, she said.

“We just don’t have the space,” Snyder said.

All proceeds from the thrift shop benefit the library located at 491 Arthur Ave. in Perkasie. For additional information about the thrift shop, call 215-964-0991. For information about the library, which is a branch of Bucks County Free Library, see www.buckslib. org or call 215-257-9718.
