Dr. Ernest “Gil” Clary has been named the interim dean of the Kutztown University College of Business, effective immediately.

Clary replaces Dr. Martha Geaney, who was dean since 2015, and associate dean from 2013-15. Geaney resigned from the position last week.

“We thank Dr. Geaney for all she did for our university and the College of Business over the past four years, especially her contributions to our AACSB accreditation,” said Dr. Anne Zayaitz, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “We are confident Dr. Clary can provide stability and maintain the excellence the college has established in the interim period.”

Dr. Clary currently serves as KU’s assistant provost for faculty and academic administration. He is responsible for the university’s overall assessment effort and serves as the co-chair of the Middle State Self-Study Process. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. KU’s 10-year self-study will be completed next academic year.

“I look forward to the opportunity to work with our outstanding faculty and staff in leading the College of Business in the months ahead,” Clary said. “We will focus on building on the strong foundation that is already in place to ensure a smooth transition for the next dean.”

Dr. Carole Wells, vice provost and dean of Graduate Studies, will chair a national search to identify a permanent dean.

Kutztown University’s College of Business, the university’s second largest college, emphasizes teaching and learning enriched by applied and pedagogical scholarship and community engagement. The college serves students from diverse backgrounds, the business community, and other stakeholders of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas. The college’s Small Business Development Center assists in this effort and promotes economic development throughout the area. The college’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs provide high-quality, affordable business education. Faculty lead and engage students to prepare them for intellectual, social, ethical, and career challenges.

The college earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2015. AACSB accreditation is considered the hallmark of excellence in business education. Less than five percent of all schools in the world are accredited by AASCB. The Department of Sport Management is accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation and the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education.
