Earl Twp. needs door-to-door recycling pickup

Shame on Earl Township supervisors. Earl Township does not offer door-to-door recycle services to their residents. They do offer recycle drop off between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the landfill in Earl from Monday to Friday.

After much research, the residents of Earl have on our own, found a company (thank you Mountz Disposal Services Inc.) willing to provide door-to-door service privately if at least 100 homes are interested in participating. The residents of Earl have asked for the township’s assistance in simply spreading the word about this door-to-door option via the township newsletter. However, the township has washed their hands of this — stating they made numerous phone calls and since they did not find anyone willing that they no longer want to be involved. It is sad that simply because they were unsuccessful at finding a company willing to come in, that when one was found for them, they refuse to assist the residents in spreading the message through the township newsletter. The residents are not asking for any endorsement nor financial contributions; simply for assistance in sharing this newly available option through the community newsletter.

Furthermore, the township is demonstrating that they have no concern that working families cannot recycle because the hours of drop off are limited as well as if you are able to get there, receptacles are often full. The township’s reply to these raised concerns are that “There is a place in Pottstown where you can take recycling.” Shame on Earl for placing so many obstacles and deterrents to recycling in the residents’ paths, thus encouraging Earl residents to create more trash for our very own landfill.

Kudos to the Earl residents who are not giving up and pushing forward through grassroots efforts despite the township’s lack of support.
