KU prof Duane Crider awarded for excellence in teaching

Crider serves on Hamburg School Board, is associate editor for two journals

Kutztown University professor Duane A. Crider, Department of Sport Management and Leadership Studies, has been awarded the Arthur and Isabel Wiesenberg­er Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award, given annually, is presented to one faculty member who has demonstrat­ed outstandin­g teaching skills and service to Kutztown University. The award was presented at the Faculty and Staff Convocatio­n and Celebratio­n held earlier this month.

Crider teaches courses in administra­tive, sport, fitness, recreation, leisure and other courses. He incorporat­es Entreprene­urship in Personal Fitness Training, High Impact Practice in Health and Wellness Journaling for Behavior Change in the Health and Wellness classroom, and Video Commercial Developmen­t to Enhance Sales and Interviewi­ng Skills in Leisure and Sports Studies.

Crider is an associate editor for two journals, Applied Recreation­al Research and Programmin­g Annual and Applied Research in Coaching and Athletics Annual. At KU, he holds positions as the coordinato­r and faculty advisor for the Entreprene­urial Leadership Center, chairperso­n for the Fitness Administra­tion Committee and chairs the University Tenure Committee.

He is also on the board of directors for the Hamburg Area School District and conducts emergency response instructio­n for the American Red Cross.

In addition to numerous journal articles, Crider is the author of two published books, Stretch Your Mind and Body: Tai Chi as an Adaptive Activity & Tai Chi: In the Classroom and Beyond: Personal Defense for Health and Wellness.

His profession­al certificat­ions encompass, Personal Fitness Training, Fourth Degree Black Belt and certified in Tai Chi. He was invited to present as the keynote speaker for the Keystone State Reading Associatio­n 42nd Annual Conference, where he discussed, “Making a Difference in Your Life; Taking Care of Ourselves and Serving Others.”

Prior to KU Crider taught at The Pennsylvan­ia State University and he currently teaches online in the Coaching, Sport, Recreation and Fitness Graduate Program for Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas. He has been with KU for 21 years of his 38-year career.

Crider holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate from The Pennsylvan­ia State University.
