St. Paul’s UCC of Kutztown
47 S. WHITEOAK ST., KUTZTOWN
Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. we join together with family, friends, and community of Kutztown in the renewal of the spirit of love, stewardship, fellowship, and faith. Join us on Dedication Sunday. We will be dedicating new gifts to our church, among them will be The Sharadin Lounge, which displays the inspiring painting by formerly well-known artist Henry Sharadin. A 13’-2” x 8’-6” mural titled Let The Children Come To Me has been restored by Property Committee members and other church volunteers and friends, and preserved by artist Jonathan Bond of Kempton. Sharadin’s artwork represents not only a lasting emotional memory for many of us at St. Paul’s, but is also one of our unique historical assets and a significant part of our cultural heritage.
Sharadin was an art professor at Kutztown University for many years, 20 of them as department chairman. He was a kind and gentle man, religious, sensitive, sentimental and considerate. Pop Sharadin, as he was affectionately called by his students, developed the art education program in the early 1920s, which became highly regarded and brought recognition to the school. Sharadin Arts building is named in his honor. A prominent creator of historical paintings, Sharadin studied in Rome, England and Paris.
Sharadin was an integral and essential member of our church, who engaged because of his genuine care and commitment to his beloved St. Paul’s, as he referred to our church. Not only did he design our Church School building in 1913, he served in the consistory, and as adult Bibleclass teacher for more than 30 years. He had been a delegate to the General Synod and Lehigh Synod of the former Evangelical & Reformed church for many years, and in 1953 received a special citation from the Lehigh Synod for his outstanding church work.
In recognition of the Sharadin mural and dedication of The Sharadin Lounge, and with grateful hearts for the many gifts made possible by our members’ collective efforts, we invite r friends and families of our community to join with us as we continue to “maintain an unbroken golden chain of events in the history of St. Paul’s UCC”, Kutztown.
