Kutztown falls to Oley Valley 4-3 in OT

In a day highlighte­d by Niki Nolte’s ceremonial game-opening goal, the Kutztown girls soccer team dropped a 4-2 overtime loss against Oley Valley in a cancer awareness game on September 11.

Nolte had been diagnosed with primary mediastina­l B cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma in April, yet persevered all throughout her diagnosis. She had been declared cancer-free and went into remission on August 24.

Kelsy Yob finished the game with a goal and an assist for Kutztown, who also got a goal from Madison Mengel.

3, KUTZTOWN 0 » Alexis Swavely turned away nine Brandywine shots but it was not enough as the Cougars lost on September 13th.

Kutztown was only able to get five shots on net in the shutout.

Boys Soccer

TULPEHOCKE­N 3, KUTZTOWN

0» Brady Tucker’s three-save night was not enough was not enough as the Cougars lost to Tulpehocke­n on September 12th.

Kutztown was only able to get one shot on net throughout the match. WYOMISSING 2, KUTZTOWN

0» The Cougars struggled to get any offense going in their loss to Wyomissing on September 14th.

Brady Tucker was strong in net for Kutztown, posting 12 saves in the loss.

Girls Cross Country

KUTZTOWN SWEEPS » Maria Marmarov led the Kutztown girls cross country team to two victories September 12th, posting a time of 21:29 to lead the field.

The Cougars beat Conrad Weiser 26-29 and Hamburg 15-50. Robyn Hoch finished fifth for Kutztown.

Boys Cross Country

KUTZTOWN SWEEPS » The Kutztowns boys cross country team was able to come away with two victories on September 12th, defeating Conrad Weiser 22-35 and Hamburg 29-30.

While no Kutztown runners finished in the top 3, six runners finished in the top 12 including Matt Angstadt (4th), Michael Hill (6th), Alex Lanyi (7th), Sam Arnold (9th), Derek Hanna (10th) and Lukas Cowell (12th).

Boys Golf

BERKS CATHOLIC 21, KUTZTOWN 3 » The Saints defeated the Cougars on September 11th to stay perfect on the season.

Nick Fiorvante shot a round-low 50 for Berk Catholic. Nathan Hayduk was finished with a team low 56 for Kutztown while Alyson Johnson had the lone Cougar win, shooting a 58 to defeat Berks Catholic’s Andrew Schreffler. HAMBURG 19, KUTZTOWN 5

» Nathan Hayduk was the low-man in Kutztown’s loss to Hamburg on September 12th, turning in a five over par 53 to defeat Hamburg’s Aly Rentschler.

Steven Reiss (69) had the only other victory for the Cougars. SCHUYLKILL VALLEY 21,

KUTZTOWN 3 » Nathan Hayduk shot a round low 49 but it was not enough as the Cougars fell to Schuylkill Valley on September 14th. The loss dropped Kutztown to 2-9 so far on the regular season.

Field Hockey

OLEY VALLEY 11, KUTZTOWN 0» The Cougars struggled to get any offense going in their loss to Oley Valley on September 11th.

Goalie Olivia Vanek was able to stop 14 shots for the Cougars who dropped to 0-2 so far on season. BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS 4,

KUTZTOWN 0 » The Kutztown field hockey team lost to Brandywine Heights on September 13th. The loss dropped the Cougars to 0-3 on the season.

Girls Tennis

VALLEY 0 » The Cougars moved to 5-1 on the season defeating Schuylkill Valley on September 11th.

Jillian Siefert, Emma Kyle, Brianna Wendling, Hannah Sanders and Kiana Harding all swept their sin- gles matches en route to the victory.

KUTZTOWN 7, TULPEHOCKE­N

0» Brianna Wendling, Hannah Sanders and Kianna Harding led the Cougars to victory on September 14th, shutting out their opponents in straight sets to pick up the win.

Kutztown moved to 6-1 so far on the season with the win.
