Kutztown falls to Pequea Valley

The Kutztown High School football team struck first on Friday, September 15. And the Cougars struck last.

But what happened in between?

A whole lot of Pequea Valley.

The Cougars dropped a 39-14 non-league contest against Pequea Valley at Kutztown University.

Kutztown (0-3 overall) scored the game’s opening points in the first quarter when Charlie Haddocks hit Tyler Fisher on a 58yard touchdown pass to take a 6-0 lead.

From there, though, the Braves responded.

Quarterbac­k Jordan Lapp ran in a 10-yard touchdown on PV’s ensuing drive to make it a 6-6 tie after the first quarter. Pequea Valley then exploded for 21 point sin the second quarter to take a commanding 27-6 lead into the locker rooms at the half.

pass, before Tim Malloy returned a fumble recovery 44 yards for another PV score. On their next drive, Lapp hit Ryan Lockhart for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

For the game, Lapp connected on 12 of his 19 passing attempts for 147 yards and three touchdowns. He also carried it six times for 65 yards and a pair of scores. Temple hauled in four catches for 72 yards and a pair of scores.

For Kutztown, Maddocks finished with 225 yards through the air with a pair of touchdowns and an intercepti­on. Drew Miller had seven catches for 95 yards while Fisher had three catches for 74 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Caleb Riegel carries it 18 times for 104 yards.

Still searching for their first win of the season, Kutztown will make the trek to Nativity B.V.M. (2-2) on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
