An Exeter Township man was killed Friday in a two-vehicle accident that closed Fleetwood Lyons Road in Richmond Township for nearly four hours, officials said.

Emergency crews responded to an accident with injuries and a vehicle fire about 2:30 p.m., according to Fleetwood police.

Paul James Cook Jr., 25, Exeter Township, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:47 p.m. by Berks County Deputy Coroner Sydney Shade.

The cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the manner was accidental, according to Chief Deputy Coroner George Holmes.

Police said Cook was traveling west on Fleetwood Lyons Road when he lost control of the vehicle. Cook then swerved into the opposing lane and was struck on the passenger side.

The other driver, whose name was not released, was transported to the Reading Hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Neither car was carrying passengers.

Police were assisted at the scene by state police, Walnuttown, Virginville and Fleetwood fire companies, and numerous fire police from across the county.

Fleetwood Lyons Road reopened shortly after 6:15 p.m.
