Family matches SoNA giving
The family of Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Benward will honor their memory by providing a $50,000 matching grant to benefit the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. The gift launches SoNA’s Annual Campaign.
Bruce Benward served as chairman of the music department and professor of music theory for two decades at the University of Arkansas and for 30 years at the University of WisconsinMadison. He also served as Florida State University’s distinguished visiting professor of music theory. He earned a master’s degree from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from Eastman School of Music.
The Benwards loved and supported the arts, and it is the family’s desire to honor them for their past commitments. The grant will provide matching funds for all contributions to SoNA up to $50,000, continuing until the first concert of the new SoNA season on Nov. 16. A portion of the donations will go into SoNA’s endowment for long-term sustainability.
