Republican committee is point shaving

-

Point shaving is defined as the illegal practice, by one or more bribed players, of deliberately limiting the number of points scored to conform to the desires of corrupt gamblers.

The Washington County Republican Committee will hold a county convention on Aug. 4 to determine who its candidate will be for county judge.

The current chairman is Lance Johnson. Mr. Johnson recently sent out a letter trying to deceive almost 90 members of the committee into resigning.

By getting rid of this many members, he is effectively narrowing the vote to elect his puppet into public office. I personally had hoped Lance Johnson had more integrity than this. The information about these letters was brought to my attention by the article written recently by Doug Thompson, which exposed the dirty politics of the Washington County Republican Committee.

I am proud of former Washington County Republican Committee Chairman Jim Reavis for standing up to this bullying tactic. This was highlighted in the Doug Thompson article. To my amazement, Lance Johnson is now openly trying to throw Jim Reavis out of the county committee, due to the news article. Mr. Reavis has always tried to grow the Republican Party, not shrink it.

And if this isn’t bad enough, the committee has the reputation of being the most controversial Republican committee in the state. Their treasurer, Brenda Vassaur Taylor, is also the treasurer of Conduit for Action and other multiple PACs, and has been outspoken against Gov. Asa Hutchinson and fielded opponents for those candidates who support his policies.

I hope the people of Washington County see through the games Chairman Lance Johnson and his team are playing. Chicago-style politics should not be tolerated.
