BELLA VISTA — JoAnn Field born July 5, 1924, in Bartlesvil­le, Okla., to Earl and June Bixler and departed this life Oct. 23, 2016. She has one brother, J.C. Bixler of Oil Trough, Ark.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Gene Field of Bella Vista, Ark.; two children, David Field (wife Lonna) of Brooksvill­e, Fla., and Debby Keaton (husband Larry) of Bella Vista. They have five grandchild­ren and 12 great-grandchild­ren.

BENTONVILL­E — Paul

Ralph Grigg, 92, of Bentonvill­e passed away Oct. 24, 2016, in Rogers. He was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Healing Springs, Ark., the son of William Thomas and Annie Logan Grigg.

He graduated from Vaughn High School. Paul served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes. He received five Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

He worked for Eagle Mill for 27 years, Best Laundry and Cleaners for four years and worked 20 years and retired from Bentonvill­e Schools. Paul was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 0077.

He is preceded in death by his wife Bluebell (Bobbie) Joan Clayton Grigg; his siblings Loyd, Lonnie, Irvin, Earl, Elsie and Effie.

Survived by his children, Ralph Grigg and wife Nancy of Bentonvill­e, Clayton Grigg and wife Barbara of Old Fort, N.C., and Annabell Woodcock and husband Bob of Bentonvill­e, nine grandchild­ren, 16 great-grandchild­ren and seven great-great-grandchild­ren.

Bland, 67, of Fayettevil­le passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, in Fayettevil­le. He was born on Oct. 13, 1949, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., to Delbert and Lora Graham Bland.

He was preceded in death by both parents.

Leon is survived by his wife Pam Bland of the home; three sons, Jason Wiles of Fayettevil­le, Jeremy Wiles and his wife Megan of Placentia, Calif., and Greg Bland and his wife Julie of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; daughter, Rachel Bale and her husband James of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; seven grandchild­ren Adrian Wiles, Evan Bland, Pearson Bland, Kathryn Bale, Aaron Bale, Christian Wiles, and Natalie Wiles; and a brother, Jerry Bland and his wife Michelle of Fayettevil­le, Ark.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Steve

Caldwell, 62, of Fayettevil­le, Ark., passed away peacefully at home after succumbing to cancer on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016.

Steve was born in Mena, Ark., to Calvin and Dora Ella Reed Caldwell on July 20, 1954.

He had a deep love for his family and friends and could often be found indulging in many of his hobbies and past times. Steve loved camping and enjoying the outdoors.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in horticultu­re and had a passion for gardening.

He loved woodworkin­g, cooking, and was known by all to be a jokester and collector extraordin­aire. Among these hobbies was a love for animals and he held a special place in his heart for his dogs Pippa, Biggs, and Sable. Steve was proud to serve his country in the Navy as well as the Navy Reserve.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leigh; his brothers, Justin Caldwell of New York City, and John Caldwell and wife Sharon of Hope; his sister, Kay Broyles and husband Mark of Little Rock; his nephew, John Caldwell Jr., and wife Claire of Hope; his niece, Candie West and husband Matt of Hope; and a very special adopted family member, Joy Williams of Fayettevil­le.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Paul

“Grandad” Gayer, age 92, of Fayettevil­le, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016. He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Goshen, Ark., the son of Charlie and Minnie Garrett Gayer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Langham Gayer to whom he married Oct. 27, 1945; a daughter, Sharon McKinney; a brother, Bud Gayer and two sisters, Helen Robbins and Pauleda Sariego.

Paul was an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Lambda, where he served on the advisory board. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church since 1952, serving as treasurer and usher.

Paul served in the Army towards the end of World War II and returned to Fayettevil­le, where he became a pillar of the community through banking and work with local charities.

He began his career at First National Bank of Fayettevil­le, and was there until 1986, when he joined a group that founded the Bank of Fayettevil­le. Through banking and real estate, Paul became a friend and mentor to many throughout the community.

He never met a person he didn’t like, and was known as “Grandad” by most people younger than him. Paul loved travel, gardening, helping others, and most importantl­y, family. Spending time with his great-grandkids was when he was happiest.

He is survived by a daughter Brenda Carmack and her husband Bill of Fayettevil­le; two sisters, Genell Bienert of Portland, Ore., and Ruth Heckart of Wichita, Kan.; two grandsons, Travis Garton and his wife Polly; Jason Garton and his wife Amber; four great-grandchild­ren, Isabel Garton, Stella Garton, Charlie Garton and Genevieve Garton.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Gregory David Mashburn,

61, Fayettevil­le, died Oct. 23, 2016. He was born May 18, 1955, in Fayettevil­le to Dr. James Dean and Mary Ann (Boling) Mashburn. He is survived by two children, two sisters, three brothers, and an ex-wife. Arrangemen­ts are entrusted to Westfield Chapel Funeral Home, Springdale, Ark.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — William Sandefur Shadrach

Jr., 90, passed away Oct. 20, 2016. Mr. Shadrach (“Bill”) is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Klein) Shadrach; three sons, William S. Shadrach III, L. Stephen Shadrach and wife Carol, and Scott A. Shadrach and wife Karen. He also leaves behind twelve grandchild­ren, and eight great-grandchild­ren.

He was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Fort Smith, the son of William Sandefur Shadrach, Sr. and Virginia (Hall) Shadrach. The family moved to Dallas where Bill grew up and graduated from Highland Park High in 1944.

He was an excellent athlete and placed 2nd in the Texas State Relays pole vaulting event. After serving aboard a ship in the U.S. Navy in WWII he returned to Dallas and attended SMU, joining the SAE fraternity. He met his wife, Dorothy (“Dot”) Klein, at SMU and they married Feb. 25, 1949, at Highland Park Presbyteri­an Church. Bill and Dot were lifelong best friends and he loved her with all his heart. Bill spent 30 years working for Republic Steel Corporatio­n, beginning as a salesman, and Assistant Sales Manager.

An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Braeburn Country Club in Houston, and Dallas Athletic Club. He and Dot traveled during their retirement, playing the best known golf courses across the U.S. Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and for the past 20 years Bill and Dot were active members of the Good News Class with Park Cities Presbyteri­an Church in Dallas and most recently, regularly attended Central United Methodist Church of Fayettevil­le.

Bill loved raising his three sons, and was a very involved father. He coached YMCA youth football, was a leader in Indian Guides with his sons, and never missed one school or sporting event of theirs. He was proud of his oldest son, Bill III, who received a scholarshi­p to play football at Rice and on to a successful marketing career; his son Steve received master’s and doctoral theology degrees and leads an internatio­nal Christian organizati­on; and Scott, who followed him into the sales profession and love of golf.

Bill was a wonderful grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r. Known as “Poppa” by all his grandchild­ren, he loved spending time with them. He was always interested in their activities and ready to offer advice when needed. Whether it was coloring contests, flying kites, or model airplanes, he was always fun loving, an active listener, and a great encourager to his grandchild­ren.

Bill and Dot had many lifelong friendship­s in Dallas and Houston, most of whom called him “Shad.” They were socially active, including membership­s in dance and bridge clubs, and enjoyed traveling with friends. Trips to Colorado, Hawaii, Mexico, and Europe held especially fond memories.

To celebrate Bill’s life, a funeral service will be held for family and friends Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park.

Earl Taylor, 86 of Fayettevil­le passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayettevil­le. He was born May 11, 1930, in Mechanisbu­rg, Ohio, to Edgar Earl and Helen Lorrine Martin Taylor.

Oscar was a school bus driver. He served in the U.S. Army for 14 years and during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed leatherwor­king and bowling. He was an avid casino goer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Taylor and his parents.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Taylor of Torrington, Wyo.; one daughter, Joy O’Hara and husband Steven of Fort Worth, Texas; three brothers, Bob Taylor and wife Barbara of Springdale, John Taylor and wife Dorsa of Diamond, Mo., and Albert Taylor and wife Marva of Springdale; six sisters, Sylvia Higgins of Johnson, Alice Vaughan of Clifty, Mildred Bone of Prairie Grove, Bonnie Strode of Springdale, Patricia Edwards of Springdale and Mary Stout and husband Bobby of Springdale; two granddaugh­ters, Michelle O’Hara of Ft. Worth, Texas; Laura Sanderson and husband David of Godley, Texas; two great-grandchild­ren, Ryan Sanderson of Stephenvil­le, Texas, and Olivia Sanderson of Godley, Texas; and 31 nieces and nephews.

Jeanne Wentz, 75, of Fayettevil­le passed away, Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, in Fayettevil­le. She was born Nov.21, 1940, in Bell Gardens, Calif., to Sherman and Iris Osburn Wood.

She was previous owner of Wentz Brothers Carpet in Springdale.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Wentz Jr.; siblings, Mel Wood, Joe Wood, Delmer Wood, Odean Wood and Olga Marrs.

Willis Thomas, age 78, a resident of Lincoln passed away Oct. 25, 2016, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born June 30, 1938, in Lincoln, the son of Rollie and Lorraine Smyth Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marvin Thomas and one sister, Nadine Louis.

ROGERS — Samuel Benedict “Sam” Triolo, 94, of Rogers and formerly of Hot Springs, Pine Bluff and Memphis, Tenn., passed away Oct. 20. Born April 24, 1922.

ROGERS — Loretta Williams, 77, of Rogers, died Monday, Oct. 24, at Mercy Hospital of NW Ark.. She was born Aug. 15, 1939, at La Jara, Colo., to Jose Timoteo Lopez and Francescit­a Gallegos Lopez. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, singing and dancing.

She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Christophe­r Lopez, Timoteo Lopez, Edward Lopez, and Lawrence Lopez; three sisters, Leonila Saenz, Mary Jane Taclay, and Rose Archuleta.

Survivors are her husband Bobbie Williams whom she married Oct. 4, 1958, at St. Rosa Lima Church in Layton, Utah; two sons, Steven Williams (Pamula) of Coppell, Texas, Chad Williams (Leslie) of Sachse, Texas; three daughters, Bonita Stanley of Plano, Texas, Maria Baker (Leon) of Rogers, Ark., Victoria Bonds of Wylie, Texas; 10 grandchild­ren; and five great-grandchild­ren.

SILOAM SPRINGS — Delmar Earl Gingrey, 82, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Oct. 23, 2016, at his home. Born June 6, 1934, in Tower Hill, Ill., he was the son of Floyd Gingrey, Sr and Letha (Watts) Gingrey.

Delmar was retired from the Air Force and also Veteran’s Administra­tion. He served in Korea and Vietnam. Delmar was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. ORLANDO, Fla. — Harold E. Smith Jr., M.D. died at his Orlando, Fla., home of a broken heart approximat­ely one month following the Sept. 13 demise of his life partner and wife of many years, Glenda Joyce Leise.

In addition to his beloved wife, predeceasi­ng Harold were his only child, Thomas Patrick Smith, a sister, Donna Smith Winzer and his parents, Harold E. and June Ray Smith. Harold is survived by his sister, Kay (Bayless) Rowe of St. Joe and Fayettevil­le, Ark., as well as a niece, three nephews and many dear friends.

Harold had a brilliant mind and received Board Certificat­ion in three separate medical specialtie­s. He devoted a large portion of his adult life to the study and treatment of substance abuse.

Among his other many interests were a lifelong love of basketball, having earned All State honors in high school, music, photograph­y and outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing in the wild Little River bottoms near Wilton, Ark.

As per his wishes, no services are planned and his cremated remains will be spread at a special place close to the Buffalo National River.
