Companies reporting quarterly earnings Tuesday included:

Eli Lilly & Co., the maker of Humalog insulin, a profit of $778 million, or 73 cents a share, down from $799.7 million, or 75 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 5 percent to $5.2 billion. The shares rose 18 cents to close Tuesday at $77.75. Merck & Co., the maker of Januvia diabetes pills, a profit of $2.18 billion, or 78 cents a share, up from $1.83 billion, or 64 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 5 percent to $10.54 billion. Shares rose $1.20 to close at $61.95. Procter & Gamble Co., the world’s largest maker of consumer products, a profit of $2.71 billion, or 96 cents a share, up from $2.6 billion, or 91 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was flat at $16.52 billion. Shares rose $2.87 to close at $86.97. Under Armour, the clothing company, a profit of $128.2 million, or 29 cents a share, up from $100.5 million, or 23 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose to $1.47 billion. Shares fell $5.01 to close at $32.89. Valero Energy Corp., the oil refiner, a profit of $613 million, or $1.33 a share, down from $1.4 billion, or $2.79 a share, a year ago. Revenue was $19.65 billion. Shares rose $2.77 to close at $58.93.
