UAFS rally falls short

Arkansas-Fort Smith (5-6) rallied from a 5-1 deficit after the third inning Tuesday in Bolivar, Mo., but fell short as the Lions lost 6-5 to Southwest Baptist (7-1) at Dobson Field.

UAFS trailed 6-4 going into the top of the ninth inning and was down to its last out after Kasey Cooper popped out and Nick Yoning fouled out. Brandon Warner then tripled off Bearcats closer Chance Wolfe and scored on a single by Brennan Dooly to cut the lead to 6-5. Wolfe got Jordany Santiago to ground out for the game’s final out.

Dooly went 2 for 4 for the Lions with 2 singles and 1 RBI. Cooper and Warner were both 1 for 4, while Drew Duncan was 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.
