Joe Lyons, pres­i­dent of the South­west­ern Sup­ply Com­pany, has re­turned from a two weeks’ trip dur­ing which he vis­ited the great trac­tor demon­stra­tion at Kansas City, where up­ward of 100 trac­tors were on ex­hi­bi­tion and in the field for demon­stra­tion. “These trac­tor demon­stra­tions,” said Mr. Lyons, “draw such crowds that al­though I wrote two weeks ahead, I was un­able to get a room at any of the big ho­tels and had to go to the sub­urbs to a sort of pri­vate or fam­ily ho­tel to get a place to sleep.”

Pu­laski County law en­force­ment of­fi­cials Fri­day re­ceived their copies of Gov­er­nor Rock­e­feller’s let­ter no­ti­fy­ing them that State Po­lice have ob­served gam­bling vi­o­la­tions in the County and will move in to stop the vi­o­la­tions un­less lo­cal of­fi­cials act by noon Mon­day. Pros­e­cut­ing At­tor­ney Richard B. Ad­kisson, af­ter read­ing his copy, wrote a let­ter of his own to the heads of all law en­force­ment agen­cies in the County stat­ing, “If this in­for­ma­tion [on open and no­to­ri­ous gam­bling] is ac­cu­rate, then it is in­deed an af­front to the laws and peo­ple of the state of Arkansas and par­tic­u­larly to the cit­i­zens and res­i­dents of Pu­laski County. 25 YEARS AGO

North Lit­tle Rock po­lice closed East Broad­way to traf­fic for more than an hour Mon­day and evac­u­ated some res­i­dents and mer­chants af­ter a pos­si­bly ex­plo­sive de­vice was found in a va­cant build­ing. The de­vice, found in­side the for­mer Cen­tury Mo­tors build­ing at 1100 E. Broad­way turned out to be in­ac­tive, said Bill Bu­ford, res­i­dent agent in charge of the Lit­tle Rock of­fice of the fed­eral Al­co­hol, Tobacco and Firearms Bureau.

Two North Lit­tle Rock po­lice of­fi­cers shot and killed a man Satur­day af­ter­noon just down the street from City Hall af­ter he threat­ened them with a knife and stick, au­thor­i­ties said. The shoot­ing oc­curred a few dozen yards from a po­lice sta­tion, said Sgt. Terry Kuyk­endall, po­lice spokesman. The man was iden­ti­fied as 25-year-old Nathan Ride­out of North Lit­tle Rock. The names of the of­fi­cers were not re­leased. The two of­fi­cers re­sponded to a 911 call at 2: 27 p. m. to in­ves­ti­gate re­ports of a man wield­ing a knife and stick at 500 E. Broad­way. The of­fi­cers saw the man in the 500 block of Main Street, ap­proached him and or­dered him to drop his weapons, po­lice said.
