A few thoughts about governing the country

- JOHN HARRETT Bella Vista

Say goodbye to Obamacare. No one wanted it anyway. Or did they?

Don’t worry: It will be replaced by WeDon’t Care.

Campaigning while you are governing must be very hard: keeping in touch with your “base” and stoking their fears; tweeting about your “enemies” (you have to have enemies to keep your base energized). It all makes me wonder, when does a person find time to govern?

All we heard during the election was “crooked Hillary.” Now all we hear is “fake news.” It worked the first time. Let’s try it again. Say it often enough and the people will eventually believe it. Stay on message.

Speaking of “fake news,” that is kind of like the pot calling the kettle black, isn’t it, i.e., alternative facts (lies to you and me).

The people at the top are the only ones who know what the truth is. Just listen to them and you don’t have to worry about anything or know anything else. They’ll let you know when to clap. You don’t really need to listen to the main news channels.

Have you checked out the First Amendment lately? Freedom of the press was meant to restrain power, prevent corruption and pursue the truth. Let people know they are being watched. Keeps everyone on their toes.

Party first and country last. Maybe we should put a mirror instead of a fence on the border so our legislators can see what they have become.

When we hand our power over to someone who will “fix everything” and allow them to divide us, we become subjects rather than citizens. The power goes from us to them.

The chants of “do your job” recently heard is a way of reminding our legislators that they work for us. It reminds them that just as we elected them, we can fire them, too. They fear that more than anything.

These words are from a senior who has voted both Republican and Democrat and is a veteran.
