CLARKSVILL­E — Jordis

Hildred Bostwick, 91, of Clarksvill­e, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Marcella Atha, of Elkins, wa s born March 5, 1927, and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. She was born in Kansas to Ted and Linnia O’Neal.

She moved to the Hazel Valley area at the age of three, then to the Elkins area as a teenager. Ellen attended Elkins High School. She married Forest “Jeep” Atha on Aug. 29, 1945, and was married for 46 years. They had three children.

Ellen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She loved her family deeply! Her first job was a waitress at Collier’s Drug Store on the square in Fayettevil­le. She later worked at the Elkins Post Office and retired after 32 years of service. She also helped Jeep run the DX Station in Elkins.

Ellen was a founding member of the Elkins Fire Bells and a 4-H Leader. She was a member and officer of the Home Demonstrat­ion Club and was so proud to serve in that role. Ellen attended and helped with all community activities and school functions, following her children through their activities in sports and academic programs. She was a faithful member of the Elkins Community Church and served on various committees as needed. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forest “Jeep” Atha; one sister, Helen Lewis; and one brother, Kenneth Dareing.

She is survived by one son, Tommy Atha and wife, Karen of Elkins; daughter, Kaye Weathers and husband, Kenny of Fayettevil­le; daughter, Debbie Snell of Alameda, Calif.; seven grandchild­ren, Sharon Pyle, Mandy Reed, Kasey Weathers, Kory Weathers, Calandra Snell-Gibson, Dillon Snell and Kyle Snell; 10 great- grandchild­ren, Matthew Pyle, Whitley Frederick, LaCole Frederick, Ty Frederick, Sydney Weathers, Konnor Weathers, Reagan Weathers, Andrew Weathers, Presley Gibson and Emery Gibson; one brother, Jack Dareing and wife, Donna of Elkins; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p. m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Beard’s Chapel.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, at Beard’s Chapel. Interment will follow in Nickell Cemetery near Hazel Valley under the direction of Beard’s Chapel.

Calvin Stewart Jr., 94, of Elkins passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, in Fayettevil­le. He was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Crosses, Ark., to John and Mary Ethel Deaton Stewart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Stewart; a son, James Robert Stewart; brothers, Jack, Joe, Harvey and James Stewart; sisters, Janie Barnes, Shirley Martin and Dixie Kaddo; a grandson, Jeffrey Hawkins; and a son- in- law, Tommy Brashears.

John was a WWII Army veteran having earned the Silver Star. He was a retired home builder, an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and enjoyed the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Marie Hankins Stewart, of the home; daughters, Shirley Brashears of St. Paul, Ark., and Sue Bartholome­w and husband, Gary of Fayettevil­le and Linda Lou LeVan, of Fayettevil­le; son, Calvin Stewart and wife, Virginia, of Fayettevil­le; sisters, Mary Lou Otta, Ruth Powell and Lela Lisky, all of California, and Kay Bohannon of Fayettevil­le; nine grandchild­ren; 20 great-grandchild­ren; and 15 great-great-grandchild­ren.

“Peggy” May Dobbs, age 92, a resident Evansville, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, in Lavaca. She was born April 1, 1924, in Crawford County the daughter of Will and Mary (Meadows) Rose.

She was preceded in death by her husband Denver Rouse Dobbs, one daughter Billie Dobbs Griffin, one grandson Todd Dayberry, one great- great- grandson Hayden Nichols, two brothers Merle Fountain and Jeff Fountain and three sisters Nancy Andrews, Mildred “Mickie” Dobbs, and Marie Dobbs.

Survivors include one son Timothy Dobbs of Evansville, Ark.; two daughters, Patricia Ellison and husband Ernest of Lavaca, Ark., and Glynetta Dayberry of Alexander, Ark.; two sisters Georgia Poplin and husband Archie of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Clesta Fields of Porter, Okla.; seven grandchild­ren Renee’ Ellison Niemann, Shayne Ellison, Glynis Dayberry, Patrick Ellison, Denver Griffin, Farion Houston and Paula Lennington; twenty four great-grandchild­ren and eight great-great-grandchild­ren.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Van

K. Brock, a Georgia- born poet, teacher, and editor, died on March 1 in Fayettevil­le, Ark . , f rom complicati­ons of pancreatic cancer. He was 84. Brock was the author of several collection­s of poetry, including The Hard Essential Landscape and Lightered, and his poems appeared in magazines such as The New

Yorker and The Yale Review, as well as in many anthologie­s. In the 1960s, he attended the famous Iowa Writers Workshop, receiving MFA and PhD. degrees, and afterwards he taught poetry for three decades at Florida State University.

He helped found and direct FSU’s creative writing program, now one of the largest and best such programs in the nation. He also founded the independen­t poetry publisher Anhinga Press and the literary magazine now called The Southeast Review.

According to poet Michael Heffernan, “Brock remains alive in his poems.” Those poems, which Heffernan called “songs of the heart’s belonging in the world,” are known for their engagement with subjects such as the Holocaust and the American South.

Brock’s son Geoffrey, also a poet, and his daughter-inlaw, Padma Viswanatha­n, a novelist, are both on the faculty of the creative writing program at the University of Arkansas. His other survivors include his son Brantley, his daughter- in- law NeoMe, three step-daughters (Allison Pierce, Cheryl Manier, and Adrienne Johnson), and his grandchild­ren Ravi and Mira.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Rodney E. Land, age 87, of Fayet teville passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017. He was born May 15, 1929, in Winslow, Ark., to Earl and Virginia Hanna Land.

He is a member of Hyland Park Assembly of God Church in Fayettevil­le. Was preceded in death by his parents: one sister, Earlene Land Stephens; brother, Tommy Land and his granddaugh­ter, Kellie Renee Land.

Rodney will be remembered in many ways, a loving, caring, personable and wise man always available to help and give support or guidance to all. He loved his family, friends and church. He was gifted with rememberin­g names of almost everyone he met.

He moved from Winslow to Fayettevil­le for his senior year and graduated from FHS in 1947. He met the love of his life in 1948 and married Feb. 24, 1950. They shared a wonderful life together. He served in the Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. After retiring from Standard Register he enjoyed his retirement with Ruth, his family and church. He will be remembered with love.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Land; daughter, Debbie Land McNair and John of Fayettevil­le; son, Rodney P. Land and Carol of Fayettevil­le, seven grandchild­ren, Angela DeWitt DeLille and Justin, Tim Land, Kendra, Daniel, Ryan, Tate and Tess McNair; three great-grandchild­ren, Jackson DeLille, Blaykeli and Brayson McNair.

Visitation will be 5–7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Moore’s Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hyland Park Assembly of God Church in Fayettevil­le with burial to follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.

Constance ( Connie) D owning Langley passed peacefully on March 5, 20 1 7, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayettevil­le. She was born March 15, 1951, in Fayettevil­le the daughter of Harold and Irene Downing.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She graduated from Elkins High School in 1969. She joined the U.S. Army at the apex of the Vietnam War and was stationed at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Ala.

Connie, along with her four siblings were raised on a little hand scrabble farm in the heart of the Ozarks. She was very active member of 4-H, where she learned to master her skills in sewing, cooking and gardening. Connie was very congenial and generous soul who never met a stranger or forgot a friend. She was be missed. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalms 34:18.

She is survived by two daughters Patti J. Buhrmann of Greenville, Texas and Vickie Swafford of San Antonio, Texas; six granddaugh­ters Robin Harvey, Cheyenne Stripling, Makaliah Sanches, Nevaeh Sanches, Raven Swafford and Autumn Swafford; one sister Cindy Downing Farmer; three brothers Larry Downing, Tim Downing and Doyle Downing and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Oxner, age 34, of Fayettevil­le, Ark., passed on March 6, 2017, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. Caleb leaves behind his wife, Jamie Oxner; his sons Oliver Oxner and Kai Rader; as well as his mother, Lisa Myers; brother, Austin Oxner and nephew Hendrix Oxner. FAYETTEVIL­LE — Mary

Sybil Steele Smith, 84, of Fayettevil­le, formerly of Mansfield, Ark., passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, in Fayettevil­le. She was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Silas Gordon Edwards and Minnie Tipton Edwards Yowell.

She graduated high school from Mansfield, Ark., and went to work for the local telephone company as a telephone operator. She retired from Southweste­rn Bell in 1984 after 25 years of service.

Mary was especially proud to move back to the family farm in 1997 to live in the house that her father had built. She was the third generation to live on the land that had been in her family for 100 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Neado Poole and Terry Edwards; her husband, Gerald C. Steele in 1974, and husband Harold V. Smith in 1990.

She is survived by her sister, Harriet Holland of Alma, Ark.; three children, Gerald W. Steele of Dallas, Texas, Cindy Longmate and husband Robert of Springdale and Damon Steele and wife Rebekah of Sherwood, Ark.; six grandchild­ren, Merry Ann Barnes of Springdale, Julie Rose of Cave Springs, Haley, Noah, Rachael, and Abigail Steele of Sherwood; three great-grandchild­ren, Gracie Young, Brianne and Lennis Rose of Cave Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

GENTRY — Roberta

Wilmoth Wilson, 84-yearold resident of Gentry, Ark., died March 6, 2017, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayettevil­le, Ark. Born Dec. 7, 1932, in Decatur, Ark., she was the daughter of Glen Wilmoth and Thelma Ownbey Wilmoth.

Roberta married Leon Wilson on Dec. 11, 1949, in Gentry, Ark. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. Roberta was a member of First Baptist Church of Gentry, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Thelma Ownbey Wilmoth; her brothers, Gerald Wilmoth and Lonnie Wilmoth of Decatur, Arkansas.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Wilson of the home; her daughter, Janet and husband Brett Bradley of Gentry, Ark.; her son, Clifford and wife Ella Wilson of Stilwell, Okla.; granddaugh­ters, Jennifer and husband Kenneth Mullins of Slater, Mo., and Cosetta Jones and husband Ron Orsburn of Preston, Okla.; grandsons, Sam Jones and Clint Wilson of Stilwell, Okla.; nine great-grandchild­ren; sister, Phyllis and husband Roger Reed of Lincoln, Ark.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Nadine Norton, age 82, a resident of Morrow, Ark., passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at her home. She was born July 1, 1934, in Prairie Grove, the daughter of Hugh Adrian “Jeff” and Jewell K. (Reed) Edmiston.

Nadine was a member of the Morrow United Methodist Church where she served as the Church Treasurer for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew Mark Edmiston.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years Jack Norton; two sons Jay Norton and wife Sandy of Lincoln and Kevin Norton and wife Rhonda of Morrow; two brothers Willis Edmiston and wife Sara of Fort Smith and Dennis Edmiston and wife Janice of Prairie Grove; four grandchild­ren Jason Norton, Megan Hudgens and husband Andrew, Julie Dobbs and husband Tony and Michael Norton; four great grandchild­ren Corbin Bowlin, Liam Hudgens, Case Dobbs and Sullivan Hudgens.

PRAIRIE GROVE — Iley E. Ellis, 78, of Prairie Grove, Ark., passed away March 6, 2017. Born March 4, 1939, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Ira and Freda Ellis, he was an Army Veteran and a retired instructor at Cotton Boll Technical Institute.

He is survived by his son: Jay (Teresa) Ellis of Farmington, Ark.; grandchild­ren: Jason Ellis of Conway, Ark., and Sarah (Aaron) Lensing of Russellvil­le, Ark.; brother: Ira Edwin (Betty) Ellis of Osceola, Ark.; his Corgi, Thor; and sister-inlaw Beth Evans of Osceola, Ark. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Alice Ellis.

ROGERS — Frank A.

Enderle, 93, of Rogers, died on Monday, March 6, 2017. He was born on Dec. 26, 1923, in Chaffee, Mo.

On Feb. 15, 1947, he married Dessie May Bushard who preceded him in death in June 1998 — 51 happy years together. He worked for the Frisco Railroad for ten years, then for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired as Postmaster in Steele, Mo. He was a member of the Church of Christ, serving as an elder for several years.

Survivors include three children, Kay Simmons (Steve), Mark Enderle (Michelle), Kent Enderle (Carla); grandchild­ren, Jessica Phillips (Mark), Jonathon Enderle (Kimberly), Allison Gabbard (Jeff), Doug Simmons, Shelley Hazel (Westley), Presley Payne; and fourteen great- grandchild­ren with more on the way.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 10 in the Rollins Funeral Home Chapel.

ROGERS — Nancy Carolyn McNeil McCuin, 86, passed on to her eternal reward on Feb. 27, 2017. Nancy was born in Fort Smith, Ark., on July 15, 1930, to John Edward McNeil, Sr. and Minnie Greene McNeil.

She graduated from Fort Smith High School, attended Ouachita Baptist College (Ouachita Baptist University), and graduated from the University of Texas-El Paso.

Nancy met Earl McCuin at Ouachita and they were married Sept. 2, 1956. During her husband’s long tenure as Director of the Moor Children’s Home in El Paso, Texas, Nancy loved serving as the librarian in the Home’s library where she inspired many young readers.

Earl and Nancy had no biological children but were important role models and loving supporters of the children at the Home. Many stayed in touch with them for years.

They moved to Rogers upon retirement and enjoyed gardening, volunteeri­ng, teaching Sunday School/Bible Classes, cheering the Razorbacks and making many friends. Not long after Earl’s death, Nancy moved to Innisfree Retirement Center. She again volunteere­d in the library. She refurbishe­d, improved and made it a great resource for the residents. Nancy was a member of First Christian Church and had a lifelong love of teaching Sunday School and Bible Studies. Nancy was predecease­d by her parents, husband and brothers, John Edward “Jack” McNeil Jr, Robert Daniel McNeil (infant) and James Houston McNeil (infant).

Nancy is survived by two nieces and one nephew and their spouses, Marsha (Jim) Allbritton, Carolyn ( Bill) Gaunt, and Alan (Kay) Sewell; great-nephews, John (Stephanie) Allbritton, Drew (Anna) Allbritton, Bradley ( Cari) Gaunt, Kedric Sewell, Aubrey Sewell, and five great-great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. There will be a reception to remember and honor Nancy and the positive impact she had on so many people on March 19 at Innisfree Retirement Home from 1 until 2:30 p.m.

ROGERS — Anne Steuart Crise McNabb, 94, died March 6, 2017, of natural causes in Bentonvill­e, Ark. She was born in Baltimore, Md., on Jan. 3, 1923, the daughter of Howard Lynne Crise and Anna St eu art Crise.

He r siblings Elizabeth Crise Swaney and Howard Lynne Crise, Jr, preceded her in death.

During World War II she was enlisted in the WAVES and served at the Navel Air Station, Memphis, Tenn. She was married to the late Clifford McNabb of Pocahontas, Ark., for 44 years until his illness and death.

Mrs. McNabb was a homemaker and active social and civic volunteer. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church, a Girl Scout leader and President of the Crowley Ridge Girl Scout Council, and board member of the Pocahontas Public Library, board member of the Arkansas State University Museum of Art and founding member of the Chapter Ark. of the PEO Sisterhood in 1952, and a bronze Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.

Her two daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy and Loyd Phillips of Springdale and Lynne and Jim Walton of Bentonvill­e, survive her. Also six grandchild­ren, MacKenzie Phillips and wife, Deb; Joanne Phillips, Annie Proietti and husband, Joey; Steuart Walton, Tom Walton and wife, Olivia; and James Walton. and four great-grandchild­ren, Wyatt and Gabriel Phillips and Cora Lynne and Louis Proietti.

SPRINGDALE — Vickey Lynn Brown was born Jan. 10, 1950, in Topeka, Kan. She was survived by her brother Matt Geyser of Plano, Texas, and her sisters Bonnie and Robin of Texas. We would like to let you know that her time here on earth is over. She received a text message from the big boss and got an offer she couldn’t refuse for an appointmen­t with our Father, from which she will not be returning. Her new assignment comes with no suffering and lots of joy! When she arrives, family and friends for which she has not seen in a very long time will be waiting for her at the pearly gates.

We want to let her know that she did a fantastic job on her husband, Kenneth Brown of Springdale. She had seven children which she dearly loved, Cristina Crossland, Leeroy Crossland, Max Crossland, Joe Rudsell, Victor Rudsell, Austin Mears and Ty Eckert, all of Northwest Arkansas. Vickey also had 22 loved grandchild­ren and eight great- grandchild­ren. Her job here is completed. Soon she will be dancing again to her favorite tune, gardening and planting flowers which she enjoyed and laying in a lawn chair in a creek somewhere in heaven! One additional perk includes delicious food where she will never gain an ounce! She left detailed instructio­ns for Kenneth and children…. to celebrate her life! Deviation from this instructio­n will not be tolerated! We will all still miss you Nana and wish you a safe journey home and hope to see you soon.

SPRINGDALE — Bertha Mae Ellen Hodkins, 87, died at 3: 30 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017, at the Maples Nursing Home in Springdale. She was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Appleton City, Mo., to Jesse and Silvia (Rash) Stewart.

On June 21, 1959, she married Jimmie Hodkins in Kansas City. They lived in Missouri, the towns of Independen­ce, Galena and Sibley, for the majority of their married life. Bertha was known for her nurturing attitude; she cared for family, friends, nature, and all God’s creatures with unwavering love.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; son William Stewart and Shelly, Springdale; daughter Phyllis Lerner and Mark, Springdale; seven grandchild­ren and five great- grandchild­ren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Louisa Ethel Gilmore, Virginia Lee Vaughan, and William “Bud” Stewart. A private prayer service will be held at the First Presbyteri­an Church, Springdale with Rev. Kris Crawford officiatin­g.

SPRING DALE— Randy Wayne Sanders, 63, of Springdale, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Fayettevil­le. He was born Aug. 19, 1953, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Clarence S. Sanders and Aunalee Ratliff.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and loved his pets and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Sanders of the home, son, Jesse W. Sanders and his wife, Jessica; daughters, Lindsey Feagin and her husband, Josh, Connie Sparks and her husband, Bobby; brothers, Greg Herron and his wife, Ginger, Kenny R. Herron and his wife, Jacquetta; seven grandchild­ren, Megan, Maddox, Rebekah, Cannon, Dean, Chase and Allison; one great-grandchild, Caydence.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tontitown. Burial with military honors will be held 12 p.m., Friday at Fayettevil­le National Cemetery. WESLEY — Reverend John Martin was born July 8, 1923, in Ozark, Ark., and passed away on March 5 2017, in Huntsville, Ark.

He was a WWII veteran where he served in the U.S. Navy, and a member of the Huntsville Masonic Lodge 364. He was a pastor for over 68 years and the founder of the New Life Tabernacle Pentecosta­l Church of God in Baldwin, Ark.

He is proceeded in death by his wife of 70 years, Maggie Martin. His parents Chester and Easter Martin, one son- Larry Dawn Martin, one daughter Linda Sue Martin, two sisters Dora Tyson, and Clara Stacy, and one great-grandson Larry James Kilpatrick.

Survivors Include: one sister, Pearlie Bowman of Ozark, Ark.; one son, Johnny Martin of Alma, Ark.; one daughterin­law, June Martin- Baker and husband Bobby Baker of Huntsville, Ark.; two grandsons, John Edward and wife Sandra Martin and Danny and wife Vicki Martin; two grandaught­ers, Melissa and husband Kenneth Watkins and Lori and husband Jason Kilpatrick; 11 great-grandchild­ren, Charae and Husband Matt Cleaver, Kenzi Watkins, Shayleigh and Husband Dewell Bryant, Blake Martin, Jerisa Martin, Brock Martin, John Henry Martin, Robbert Joseph Martin, Alex Kilpatrick, Ashlyn Kilpatrick, and Jadyn Kilpatrick; one greatgreat granddaugh­ter, Hayven Bryant and one great-great grandson, Mosston Cleaver.

Funeral services will be at Brashears Funeral Home chapel in Huntsville Ark., on March 9 at 10 a.m. with Reverend C.E. Simpson and Reverend Phil Redding Presiding. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Brashears.

WEST FORK — Edward Z. Currier Jr. of West Fork, Ark., passed away March 3, 2017, at home. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in West Fork, Ark., with Brother Robin Rhodes officiatin­g.

Edward Z. Currier Jr. was born in Oliver Springs, Tenn., to Ruby Lee Young and Edward Z. Currier Sr. on Nov. 11, 1959. He was married to Betsy K. Currier on June 1, 1991. He worked as a fabricator for Kawneer for 12 years. Ed has been one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 43 years.

Edward is preceded in death by his father Edward Z. Currier, Sr.; his mother Ruby Lee Young; and his nephew Brandon Delcour.

Edward is survived by his wife of 26 years Betsy K. Currier; two daughters Margret ( Kyle Fowler) of Pea Ridge, Ark., and Zella (Carl Line) of Fairgrove, Mo.; one brother Chris Currier of Willard, Mo.; one granddaugh­ter Emilee Currier - Papa’s sunshine-; and three grandsons; 23 nieces and nephews; and 40 great-nieces and nephews.

WEST FORK — Debra Ann (Mueller) Dixon, 58, of West Fork, Ark., passed away on the March 1, 2017, suddenly and unexpected­ly in Fayettevil­le, Ark.

Debi was born July 29, 1958, in St Joseph, Mich., to Harry Mueller and Sally (Frakes) Mueller. She graduated Bridgman High School, Bridgman, Mich., in 1976. She continued her education in San Antonio, Texas, receiving an Associate’s Degree in Small Business Management in 1999.

Debi was a grandma to all. She had an instinct to make any child who needed her love her own. She worked managing her home, where all were welcomed with open arms, and caring for her family, friends, and animals who are now lost without her. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family.

Grandma Debi is survived by her fiance of 14 years, Johnny Ridgeway; her mother, Sally Mueller; her son, “Little” Richard Dixon; her grandchild­ren, Broc Dixon, Cortny Dixon, “LD” Richard Dixon, Braxton Dixon; her great-grandson, Hayden Dixon; her brother, Jim Mueller, her sister, Teresa Mueller; and other family, friends and grandkids who will deeply miss her.

Debi is preceded in death by her lifelong friend, “Richey” Richard Dixon and her father, Harry Mueller.
