Aren’t Republicans part of a do-nothing party?

-

I’ve been trying to figure out what Republicans have done for the average American.

Ronald Reagan partnered with the Democratic Congress in the 1980s to shore up Social Security and Medicare. At least he did that. He also gave amnesty to several million illegal immigrants.

George H.W. Bush gave us the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Clean Air Act Amendments, and he too carried out a benign policy toward immigration and illegal immigrants, so at least that.

George W. Bush, well besides war of the wrong place, wrong time and wrong reason, at least he tried to get immigration reform initiated in the Republican Congress, but they wouldn’t do it, and he tried to get traction for privatizing Social Security, but at least Congress had sense not to go there, thank goodness!

So it seems Republicans haven’t done much to help the average American citizen. They rant about issues that cannot be easily resolved in a free Society such as abortion, illegal immigration, terrorism, the deficit — as if they didn’t have the most part of inflating it — and Hillary’s emails. Of course, they have never proposed any sort of universal health care insurance and want to decrease the cost of Medicare, Medicaid and gut the Affordable Care Act. Nothing about immigration reform, nothing about allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices with Big Pharma, nothing about providing safe housing for homeless Americans and veterans, nothing about reducing the cost of college loans or increasing grant money, nothing about increased expenditures for job training/retraining, nothing about trying to alleviate our dependence upon fossil fuels and nothing about mitigating mankind’s impact upon Climate Change.

In other words not much. And they keep getting elected? SAM EMERSON Fayetteville
