Man admits trying to kill wife
FAYETTEVILLE — A Springdale man pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to kill his wife with a roofing hammer in front of a 3-yearold child.
Jamie Slover, 39, of 762 Oakridge Drive pleaded guilty in Washington County Circuit Court to attempted second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 20 years at the Arkansas Department of Correction. The sentence included a five-year enhancement because a child was present.
Slover will have to serve a quarter of his sentence plus the five-year enhancement before becoming eligible for parole, according to prosecutors.
Slover initially was charged with attempted capital murder and was facing up to life in prison if convicted.
A 34-year-old woman was “attacked with a weapon by her husband” Sept. 28, 2015, according to a police report.
Slover hit his wife on the head and upper torso with a roofing hammer, according to court documents.
The woman was treated at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale.
Slover was arrested without incident near Aspenridge Drive and Powell Street several days later.
