■ Ivanka Trump said she will become an unpaid White House employee bound by federal ethics rules, including having to file financial disclosure forms after ethics experts voiced concerns about her advising her father, President Donald Trump, “in my personal capacity.”

■ Troy James, who called for help after running out of gas near Tulare, S.D., was charged with felony grand theft after, sheriff’s deputies said, he drove off in a squad car and led officers on a 140-mile chase before being caught when he ran out of gas a second time.

■ Junaedi, who goes by one name, said villagers in Indonesia’s West Sulawesi province found the body of a missing man inside a 23-footlong reticulated python that had squeezed him to death and then swallowed him in a rare attack on a human.

■ Ali Mahfuz, 63, a bus driver from Nashua, N.H., was charged by police in Chelmsford, Mass., with operating under the influence and child endangerment, after students and a teacher on a field trip reported smelling marijuana smoke on the bus.

■ Denise “Wee Wee” Ross, 45, a Dallas cosmetician, was sentenced to 60 years in prison after being found guilty of murder and practicing medicine without a license when she injected industrial-grade silicone into a woman’s buttocks, leading to the woman’s death.

■ John Tarabocchia of Emerson, N.J., and his family received minor cuts when a flying, 30-pound wild turkey smashed into their SUV’s windshield as they drove west of South Bend, Ind., authorities said.

■ Doris Payne, 86, a jewel thief with a criminal record spanning six decades, pleaded guilty to felony shoplifting and was sentenced to time served, house arrest and probation for leaving an Atlanta-area department store with a $2,000 necklace in her back pocket in 2015.

■ Claire Jones, 36, and Terrance Reed, 23, both of Monroe, La., face multiple drug charges after a Louisiana state trooper smelled marijuana during a traffic stop and reported finding a bag of pot in a backpack under Reed’s seat and another bag hidden in the pants of Jones’ 10-year-old daughter.

■ Mariusz Slomka, a prosecutor in Oswiecim, Poland, said 11 peace activists protesting wars across the world were each charged with desecrating a remembrance site after they slaughtered a sheep, stripped naked and chained themselves together at the Auschwitz death camp.
