Mona Lisa Touch can help those who have battled breast cancer

- Special to NWA Democrat-Gazette

As women age, their bodies experience physical change in a multitude of ways. Weight gain, loss of muscle tone, and facial aging are struggles many women deal with and discuss with their physicians.

A change in vaginal health also occurs. which is rarely addressed. As estrogen in the body decreases, the vaginal tissue becomes dry and thin which can lead to painful intercourse, vaginal burning and irritation. This decrease in estrogen can result from, among other things, breast cancer treatments.

Until recently, there were few options to treat these symptoms. Overthe-counter lubricants and vaginal estrogen preparations have been found to be helpful but not curative. These therapies can be cost prohibitive, and messy and many women choose not to continue them. Now, there is a solution that many women are calling “life changing.”

Parkhill Clinic for Women is proud to be the exclusive provider of the Mona Lisa Touch in Northwest Arkansas.

The Mona Lisa Touch is a laser therapy designed to treat women with vaginal dryness, burning and irritation, and pain with intercourse. It can also improve bladder irritation and certain vulvar skin conditions.

The laser works by stimulating collagen production in the vaginal wall, which improves blood flow and natural vaginal lubrication. This therapy is performed in the office and requires no anesthesia. It is a painless procedure not associated with any side effects and takes approximately five minutes to perform. With three simple treatments spaced six weeks apart, women are reporting a 90 percent improvement in their symptoms.

Those struggling with vaginal burning, vaginal irritation, or painful intercourse as a result of breast cancer treatments may find the Mona Lisa Touch to be the solution.

Those wanting to schedule a consultation can call the office at (479) 521-4433. All of the clinic’s board certified physicians are trained in this procedure and would be happy to discuss questions or concerns about it with you.
