Glade Community

The second quarter general meeting of the Glade Community Historical Society will be at 3 p.m. today at the Glade Post Office/ Store, 20659 Slate Gap Road in Garfield. In addition to the regular meeting agenda, storytelle­r and blacksmith Jody Roller will bring history alive with a blacksmith­ing demonstrat­ion, and there will be an opportunit­y to see the progress to date on the Glade Post Office/ Store restoratio­n project.

Library Friends

Bella Vista Friends of the Library will hold a halfprice book sale from Monday through Saturday at the library’s used book store. Every book in the store will be on sale. Categories include fiction, nonfiction, rare books, classics, cookbooks, health, religion and paperback. Encore! Books is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and all proceeds go to the expansion project.

Democrats

The Washington County Democratic Women will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mermaids Seafood Restaurant in Fayettevil­le. Political strategist Jessica Deloach Sabin will be the guest speaker. She provides strategic consulting for clients and is senior director of policy and media for the Center for a Better South, based in Charleston, S.C.

Sabin was recently appointed by the Democratic Party of Arkansas to lead the newly establishe­d Committee of the Future, which is tasked with gathering informatio­n, formulatin­g a plan of action and providing tools and resources for county committees.

Hope Cancer Resources and Highlands Oncology Group offers a support group for patients affected by lymphedema from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Highlands Oncology Group in Rogers. This group is co-facilitate­d by lymphedema profession­als and an oncology social worker.

Civil War

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the General Store at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson Ave. in Springdale. The program will be on “Death and Burial Customs of the Ozarks during the Civil War,” presented by author Abby Burnett of Kingston. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in Civil War history.

Hill ‘N Dale

Hill ‘N Dale Hiking Club of Bella Vista will travel to Madison County Friday to hike King’s River Overlook and Tea Kettle Falls in the Wildlife Management Area. This will be two hikes, easy and moderate, 2½ to 3 miles combined.

Depart at 8 a.m. from the upper level parking

area of Harps in Bella Vista and carpool to McIlroy/ Madison Wildlife Management Area. Nonmembers are welcome.

Naturalist­s

Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalist­s will hold their public annual plant sale from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. The native plant special interest group will be one of many different vendors at the event, selling numerous perennial plants propagated by the group. The Master Naturalist plantings are native to Arkansas, with an emphasis on host and pollinator plants for butterflie­s.

The sale for BGO members only is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. There is no admission fee for either event, and cash and checks will be accepted for purchases.

Trails

The Ozarks Highlands Trail Associatio­n will be hiking to Hawksbill Crag, an iconic prominent stone bluff outcroppin­g that resembles a hawk’s head and bill, on April 30. This much photograph­ed landmark attracts

thousands of visitors each year.

For carpooling, meet at 8:30 a.m. at Harps Grocery in Elkins near the gas pumps. All hikers are welcome, but no pets are allowed.
