Not only will massage help you relax and de-stress, you get the added bene t of improved circulation and a boost to your immunity.
A one-hour massage equates to up to eight hours of sleep on the body. There are countless bene ts massage therapy can bring to your daily life. Some of the general bene ts include:
• Overall relaxation
• Relief for tight muscles, aches, and pains
• Increased exibility and range of motion
• More energy
• Improved mood
• Better sleep
The two most common massages for relaxation and stress relief are the Relaxation/Swedish Massage and the Deep Tissue Massage. Both massages are offered at LaVida Massage.
Relaxation/Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is probably the most common of all massage therapies. The therapist will use a variety of strokes and pressures, as well as a movement of the joints. The four strokes most commonly used in this type of massage are: Effleurage (a smooth, gliding stroke to relax soft tissue), Petrissage (the squeezing, rolling or kneading that follows Effleurage), Friction (deep, circular movements that increase blood ow) and Tapotment (short, alternating taps done with cupped hands, ngers, or the edge of the hand). This combination of movements relieves muscle tension and can be both relaxing and energizing. Swedish massage is a great introductory massage for anyone who is new to massage and simply wants to feel better.
Deep Tissue Massage
If you are experiencing soreness after a workout, slept wrong, feeling knotted from sitting at a desk all day, or just have some “trouble spots” from everyday activities, a Deep Tissue Massage may be just the solution. Deep Tissue Massage involves slow deliberate strokes that focus pressure on the layers of muscles, tendons, and other deep tissues under your skin. This massage, though less rhythmic than others, is ideal for pinpoint areas that need a little more attention. It can be an ideal addition to your regular therapeutic massage routine or used throughout the year when you are experiencing extra stress or conditioning.
