Royals fall to Chicago, drop 10th in last 11 games

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jose Quintana gave up four singles over eight innings and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-0 on Tuesday night.

Quintana (2-4) walked two, struck out seven and allowed only one runner to reach second base.

The Royals lost for the 10th time in 11 games. Starter Danny Duffy (2-2) allowed six runs, 10 hits and two walks over five innings. Duffy has lost back-to-back starts to the White Sox, giving up 12 runs and 19 hits in 9 2 /3 innings.

Yolmer Sanchez had three hits and Avisail Garcia and Geovany Soto each had two to lead Chicago's offense.

Garcia was 2 for 2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch. He leads the American League with a .382 batting average, and his on-base percentage hiked to .433. He scored a run in the second and drove in Sanchez with a third-inning single.

Sanchez led off the third with a double and drove in Soto with a single in the sixth. Soto had two hits, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. His second-inning single scored Todd Frazier with the first run of the game. His fly out to Whit Merrifield in the third scored Jose Abreu to make it 4-0.

RED SOX 5, ORIOLES 2 Adam Jones received extended applause from Fenway Park fans a night after he was racially taunted, both teams were warned after Boston ace Chris Sale threw behind Manny Machado’s legs in the first inning and the Red Sox went on to beat the Baltimore

Orioles 5-2 Tuesday night. Machado homered out of Fenway Park for the second straight night, a seventh-inning drive, and the Orioles turned an usual triple play in the eighth inning on a popup to short left field.

YANKEES 11, TORONTO 5 Aaron Judge hit two more home runs after destroying a flatscreen television with a long drive during batting practice, and Brett Gardner also went deep twice to power the New York Yankees past the Toronto Blue Jays 11-5 on Tuesday night. Injury substitute Aaron Hicks added a two-run shot, and Masahiro Tanaka (4-1) pitched into the seventh inning to win his fourth straight start. Matt Holliday had three hits, including an early RBI double, as the Yankees jumped to a 7-0 lead against Mat Latos and won for the 15th time in 20 games.

ASTROS 8, RANGERS 7 Marwin Gonzalez hit two home runs, including a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning that rallied the Houston Astros over the Texas Rangers 8-7 Tuesday night. Gonzalez hit a towering fly off Keone Kela (0-1) just over the right field wall and inside the right field foul pole for his first career grand slam and a 7-5 lead. Gonzalez stood near the plate, seeing if the ball would be fair, before tossing his bat toward the dugout and beginning his trot. George Springer had an RBI single later in the inning.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

BRAVES 9, METS 7 Ender Inciarte drove in three runs with three hits, R.A. Dickey’s floaters were more effective than Matt Harvey’s fastballs for the second time in a week and the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 9-7 on Tuesday night. New York’s Jay Bruce drove in six runs with two homers, including a grand slam off Matt Wisler in the ninth.

CARDINALS 2, BREWERS 1 Carlos Martinez pitched effectivel­y into the eighth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals once again beat Wily Peralta, topping the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 Tuesday night. Martinez (1-3), making his sixth start of the season, retired the first 12 batters. He gave up an unearned run on four hits in 71/3 innings, striking out four and walking one. Trevor Rosenthal pitched a perfect ninth for his third save in three chances.
