■ A consortium of liquor stores can pursue a challenge of a decision by state alcohol regulators to grant a liquor store permit to a Sam’s Club planned for Fayetteville, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday. The unanimous decision, written by Justice Paul E. Danielson, clears the way for the Arkansas Beverage Retailers Association to continue its effort to get the Pulaski County Circuit Court to overturn the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board’s issuance of the permit. The group of about 40 Arkansas liquor stores maintains that the Sam’s Club will have an unfair advantage in the retail alcohol business because the store can sell products as varied as tires and groceries, while traditional liquor stores are prohibited by law from selling anything but alcohol, soft drinks, mixers, tobacco products and a small number of other items.
