The school of education at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith recently inducted students into the Alpha Beta Omega chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi international honor society during a ceremony that also recognized senior members in the organization.
Local students recognized during the ceremony were Jessica Brown of Alma, new member; Nicole Dapson of Alma, new member; Christal Gilmore of Alma, new member and presented senior cord; Amra Trevino of Barling, new member; Ashlee Stumph of Booneville, new member; Kimberly Carter of Fort Smith, new member; Melissa Glory of Fort Smith, cord; Jessica Vearrier of Fort Smith, cord; Emily McGill of Greenwood, cord; Ashley Woodey of Greenwood, cord; Natasha Elmore of Hackett, new member; Hayli Cole of Lavaca, cord; Jessica Lemus of Van Buren, cord; Lisa Rodriguez of Van Buren, cord; Lela Nickell of Van Buren, new member and cord; Shane Hale of Waldron, cord.
UAFS FACULTY
University of Arkansas at Fort Smith recognized faculty members for their dedication to the university, to the community and to teaching during a faculty appreciation ceremony held April 14.
Recipients were Ernest Cialone of Fort Smith, recipient of the Lucille Speakman master teacher award; Tom Wing of Van Buren, recipient of the Excellence to the University, to the Profession and to the Community service award; Dan Maher of Fayetteville, recipient of the Excellence in Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities award; Susan Hotz of Fort Smith, recipient of the Luella M. Krehbiel adjunct teaching excellence award; and Steve Kite of Fort Smith, recipient of the Lori Norin faculty appreciation award given by the Student Government Association.
TROY UNIVERSITY
Aaron Jones of Bentonville has been named to the third-term provost’s list at Troy (Ala.) University, which a grade-point average of 3.65 or better.
WILLIAMS BAPTIST COLLEGE
Diego Santillan of Rogers was inducted April 19 into Sigma Beta Delta, the international honor society for business at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. To qualify for the honor society, the students must rank in the top 20 percent of their classes and be invited to join by faculty of the college’s business department. Santillan is the son of Hipolito Garcia and Aracelia Ramirez of Noel, Mo.
QUIZ BOWL CHAMPIONS
The 2017 Arkansas Quiz Bowl champions were determined in
the state conference finals held April 22 at the Arkansas Educational Television Network in Conway. The champion schools included Haas Hall Academy Fayetteville, District 3A; Huntsville, District 4A; Harrison, District 5A.
The Arkansas Governor’s Quiz Bowl Association awarded each first-place team $3,000 in scholarship funds and each second place team $1,500. Each most valuable
player also received a scholarship. In a series of questions, Quiz Bowl players displayed their knowledge in literature, math, science, history, art, music and economics.
MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY
Josh C. McCoy of Fayetteville will be awarded with a bachelor of science in economics degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato, during 2017 commencement ceremonies May 6.
