Living Word Lutheran Church in Rogers, meeting at the Center for Nonprofits at St. Mary’s, 1200 Walnut St., announces the Rev. Richard Solberg has been appointed to serve as interim pastor. He will preach his first sermon for the church at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Solberg recently completed an interim pastorate at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fayettevil­le. He served as pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers from 19741995 and the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista. Solberg also served churches in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Bali, Indonesia; Salzburg, Austria; Oslo, Norway; and as a chaplain with the Holland America Cruise Line.

Living Word is assocaited with the Lutheran Churches in Mission for Christ.

Village Bible Church in Bella Vista, 1591 Forest Hills Blvd., presents the Teen Challenge Choir sharing songs and stories of freedom from addiction at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. A grilled meal with potluck side dishes starts at 5:30 p.m.

Bentonvill­e Church of the Nazarene, 220 N.W. A St., hosts the “Compassion Experience” by Compassion Internatio­nal, a Christian child-developmen­t organizati­on that works to release children from poverty. The 1,700-square-foot exhibit space will be set up in the church parking lot through Monday. Visitors will take self-guided journeys into replicas of the homes and environmen­ts of two Compassion beneficiar­ies in Guatemala and Uganda. Compassion serves more than 1.8 million children in 25 countries.

First United Methodist Church in Rogers, 307 W. Elm St., presents The Voices of Resurrecti­on singing with the local chancel choir during worship services at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The 32-member, auditioned, choir comes from the United Methodist Church of the Resurrecti­on in Leawood, Kan. Kevin Bogan, formerly of Fayettevil­le, is the music director.

First Presbyteri­an Church in Rogers, 1901 S. 26th St., sponsors the Leslie Shupe Art School at 10 a.m. every Saturday, today to June 10. Classes are for adults and children ages 7 and older, including acrylics, taught by Joe Lay; water color, taught by Anita Carroll; oil by Debi Ortega; and drawing and pastels by Cindy Shepherd. Cost is $20, plus supplies.

The Neighborho­od Church in Bentonvill­e, 2003 S.W. Regional Airport Road, plans an open house for those wanting to know more about the church after the 10:40 a.m. worship service Sunday.

The church sponsors a parking lot sale May 19-20, with proceeds to benefit Mission: Guatemala. Donated items are accepted, with pickup of larger items available.

The church offers “Gadgets and Gizmos” vacation Bible school, for children 5 years old through the fourth grade, from 6 to 8 p.m. June 5-8.

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., presents a gospel singalong at 6:30 p.m. Friday. A newcomers’ orientatio­n is planned for 7 p.m. May 17.

A men’s Bible study meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday. A new study begins May 17, focusing on The Assurance of Salvation by R.C. Sproul. The church offers a new women’s Bible study covering Bad Girls of the Bible by Liz Curtis Higgs. The study meets from 9:30 to 11 a.m. starting June 1. Cost is $17.50 for materials.

The church currently accepts registrati­on for a summer arts camp June 19-23. The camp, for children entering first to sixth grades, includes classes on hand chimes, guitar, line dancing, card making, watercolor collage, weaving, junk sculpture and more. Cost is $10 per student, with scholarshi­ps available for families enrolling multiple children. Registrati­on closes June 1.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, presents the Lyrique Quintette, a resident woodwind quintet of students and faculty from the University of Arkansas in Fayettevil­le, performing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the sanctuary. The concert is free, but an offering will be collected. The group has toured throughout the United States, as well as Thailand, Germany and Canada.
