GOLF Henderson women finish ninth in D-II
The Henderson State University women’s team finished ninth at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf National Championships in Findlay, Ohio.
The Lady Reddies posted a final round of 316 to total 1,273 for the 72-hole championship. Henderson finished tied with Augustana and two strokes better than Arkansas Tech University, which placed 11th with a 1,275 total. The Golden Suns closed the tournament with a final-round 313.
Sarah Wright finished the tournament tied for 19th with a four-round total of 313 (+25). Luisa Gartmann finished with a 314 total to tie for 22nd. Arkansas Tech was led by Caroline Fredensborg, who shot a 28-over 316. She finished with a final-round 76. Pia Nunbhakdi finished tied for 33rd with a 317 after closing with a 77.
Barry University claimed the national title by beating Dallas Baptist by one stroke, with the Buccaneers finishing with a 1,222 total while Dallas Baptist ended with a 1,223.
Indianapolis placed third (1,232) while West Texas A&M was fourth (1,248) and St. Mary’s fifth (1,259).
NCAA women’s second round postponed
Saturday’s second round at the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships was canceled due to weather. Play will resume at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., today beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday’s original tee times will move to Sunday with no changes in the pairings.
As a result, the stroke-play portion of the championship will be shortened to 54 holes. The top eight teams will advance to the match play quarterfinals.
Cara Goriel of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville shot an 84 in the first round and is 12 strokes behind the leader.
SOFTBALL
Super regional postponed until today
Game 3 of the Harding-Minnesota State NCAA Division II Softball Central Super Regional has been postponed until today at 1 p.m. at the Harding Softball Field.
The game will resume in the bottom of the second inning with Harding leading 4-3. Minnesota State won the first game 1-0, and Harding won game two 3-2.
The winner of the game will advance to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va., starting Thursday.
