BENTON COUNTY

First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville, 901 N.E. J St., offers “Hero Central: Discover Your Strength in God,” a vacation Bible school, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday to Thursday. Each session begins with supper, followed by different classes for children and adults.

The church operates a food pantry from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Saturday.

Village Bible Church in Bella Vista, 1591 Forest Hills Blvd., offers “Ocean Commotion: Diving Into Noah’s Flood,” a vacation Bible school, from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. June 26-30. The program is for children entering grades kindergarten through sixth grade in the fall.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., sponsors “Dinner and a Movie” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The church presents J.P. Cima, a missionary in Vietnam, during the morning worship services and Bible hour June 25. He will explain how ministry in a foreign mission field applies to the church’s mission field in Bella Vista.

The Shepherd’s Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday. The pantry needs donations of peanut butter and jelly and bar soap.

Brightwater Memorial United Methodist Church, 14108 E. Highway 62, and Pea Ridge United Methodist Church, 1205 N. Davis St., welcome new pastor, the Rev. Scott Stewart. He will lead his first services July 2, 9:30 a.m. at Brightwater and 11 a.m. at Pea Ridge.

Unity Church of the Ozarks, 902 S.W. Second St., Bentonville, honors fathers with members placing mementos and keepsake items on the altar during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday.

The church also offers an adult class, “How to Pray,” from 9 to 10 a.m. each Sunday in June. The class is designed to teach the difference between traditional prayer and Unity’s affirmative prayer. A new Wednesday night study centers on self-examination through The Work: Loving What It Is by Bryon Katie.

New Life Christian Church in Bella Vista, 103 Riordan Road, offers a Bible study and dinner for college-age adults from 6 to 8 p.m. each Thursday.

A new summer Bible study for women, “The Daniel Prayer,” meets at

The Ladies Birthday Lunch group gathers at 11:30 a.m. Friday, to celebrate those having birthdays this month.

Through the summer months, the church collects snacks for kids to donate to Helping Hands Food Pantry in Bentonville. Suggested items include cheese and crackers, fruit cups, juice packets and boxes, granola bars and microwavable items such as macaroni and cheese, ravioli and soups.

Spring Creek Missionary Baptist in Springdale, Wagon Wheel Road, celebrates 160 years in ministry with worship, lunch and activities from 10 a.m. to

4 p.m. Sunday.

Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, 6 W. Dickson St., presents the Agape Singers youth choir from Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston at 6 p.m. June 28 in the Activity Center. The choir presents the musical Esther, taken from the Old Testament. The Agape Singers prepare for six months to present a musical with a message, and tour with the musical before presenting shows at home.

The University of Arkansas offers the class, “The Holy Land in Jewish Thought,” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, July 3 to Aug. 4. Jacob Adler, rabbi of Temple Shalom of Northwest Arkansas in Fayetteville, leads the class.

The class will consider main currents of Jewish thought relating to the land of Israel and Palestine. Class emphasis is on the trends of thought necessary for understanding the current issues and conflicts over the Land of Israel, including religious, nonreligious and anti-religious viewpoints. Focus is on the various ideologies, with history and politics being brought in only to the extent necessary to understand them.

Topics include: What’s holy about the Holy Land; the language one should speak there; what happens if a visitor is not holy and more.
