Embracing alternative facts doesn’t change science
I am writing to comment on Bob Warner’s June 5 letter to the editor.
Just because you believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny does not make them exist. Mr. Warner does not provide any facts he could use to convince others that global warming is junk science. He believes that this is a left-wing conspiracy that universities use to extract donations from the government. I suspect that he also believes the earth is only 6,000 years old.
He ignores the mountain of data that shows the mean temperature of the oceans and atmosphere is slowly climbing each year. Sixteen of the 17 warmest years in the 136-year record all have occurred since 2001. This increase is highly correlated with the concentration of carbon dioxide, which is also climbing (https://climate. nasa.gov/)
How much evidence does one need to prove that the earth is in trouble and we need to control carbon emissions? The best way is a price on carbon as recommended by the REMI study and promoted by the Citizens Climate Lobby (https://citizensclimatelobby.org/about-ccl/) and the Climate Leadership Council.
