An education for all

-

Education is the cornerstone of democracy. Before the war, Germany offered all students eight years of public education, and four or five more years to those who passed the tests. The U.S. offered 12 years of public education starting in the 1920s. We had the most educated military and work force in the world during the war.

Now we are falling behind. We need to educate all students through college if we are going to compete successfully in the coming century.

I read letters from people who say global warming is a hoax. Fox TV and radio tell them so. I believe few liberally educated people get their news from Fox TV and radio. If you say that global warming is a hoax, you betray your lack of scientific knowledge. You need to study basic science.

If you want people to think that you are uneducated, just spout what you hear on Fox TV and radio. Educated people know that Fox News is not “fair and balanced.” It seems to be nothing but Republican propaganda aimed at their base. Donald Trump calls CBS, CNN, ABC, NBC and others “Fake News.” I believe the real fake news is Fox TV and radio. They call it “ginning up the base.”

This generation learns less about more subjects, and more about a few. Donald Trump epitomizes the undereducated rich man. Jesus said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Labor not for the things of this world, but for the coming kingdom of God, where every being is loved and cherished.

It begins with a well-rounded college education for all.
